Legion darts
keepingflying
By Steve Cooke
Darts last week saw
Brenda Atkinson and Terry
Hollingshead in the high
couple score, while Karen
Greidanus and Brenda
Bottema teamed up tor low
couple. Addie Graham wor-
high lady with a 120 while
Lloyd Butler threw a 100 for
high man. John Scott doesn't
have his name in the dart
column this week, only
because he was working
bingo instead of flinging
those deadly missiles
around.
In men's euchre, the
elimination of Cameron &
Maddeaux tied for high score
with an 86 each. Bill Jenkins
won the distinction of turning
in a low 51, while Wayne
Grigg won lone hands with 6.
There is a mixed dart
tournament corning up .on
Saturday, December 12th at
the Dashwood Hotel, and it is
limited to 18 teams.
Registration will be on a first
come first served basis, so
more complete details are
posted on the sports board
downstairs at the branch.
A pub night will be held on
December 4th, and everyone
is welcome. These nights are
always good fun, so we'll
look forward to seeing you
out for it. Its a nice way to
break up those longdreary
winter spells.
And, if you have any spare
cash in your pocket, don't
forget the new addition.
Drywall is on special this
week for $10 a sheet, and we
need a total of 96 sheets.
Every little contribution
helps, so shake out the moths
and give a hand. •
At the meeting on Monday
night, the Ladies Auxiliary
were presented with the keys
to the new kitchen. There is
still quite a bit of work to do
in it yet, but at least its
functional. I'm sure it will be
a real show piece when the
final touches are put on.
The Christmas draw is off
and running, and tickets are
available at the bar. At 25
cents a chance, its got to be
the best game in town so
carne on down and get a
fistfull now. You never know
but what we might just run
out.

which they report - up until
now had no record for
largest bottle collection,
although there is one for
cans.
The lads spent last
Saturday morning setting up
the bottles for a photo for the
Wingham Advance -Times,
before trucking them to
Hanover to cash them in. At
10 cents, a bottle, the haul
netted more than $2,000.
There was no report of
where the lads got that many
bottles.

Blyth features
Handel's Messiah
An old Christmas favorite,
Handel's Messiah, will get a
unique treatment when
Tafelmusik Orchestra and
Chamber Choir performs the
classic at Blyth Merrlbrial
Hall, Sunday, December 13
at 2 p.m.
Although with nearly 40
musicians and singers in-
volved, this will be; the
largest ensemble yet to
perform in the Blyth Centre
for the Arts music series,
this Messiah is actually a
scaled-down, simpler ver-
sion than the huge produc-
tions often performed - in
modern times with entire
symphony orchestras and
100 -voice choirs.
Tafelmusik orchestra uses
the instruments musicians
would have played when
Handel's Messiah was first
produced in Dublin in 1741.
The Tafelmusik choir
specializes in the authentic
vocal Dractices for the mush"
of the 17th and 18th cen-
turies.
During his lifetime,
Handel made several
revisions to the Messiah.
which he originally wrote in
only three weeks in 1741. In
fact, the oratorio was never
performed in its original
st'rafelmuslk is a unique

principal musicians from
across North Ani,erica to
take part in this new ex-
perience of a full-time

for this concert are held by
