Drive safely
next week,
and all weeks
The Canada Safety Council
announces 1981 National
Safe Driving Week
December 1-7.
The purpose of Safe
Driving Week is to alert
Canadians everywhere that
risk of death or injury from
traffic crashes is still a
horrendous social problem in
Canada During 1980, there
were 5,459 traffic fatalities in
Canada Preliminary figures
indicate there will be over
5,600 traffic fatalities in 1981.
Certainly the loss of 5,600
lives in one year from any
other single cause would be
regarded as a major national
disaster.
Traffic fatalities do not
happen to cars, trucks,
motorcycles and bicycles.
They happen to people. In a
traffic collision, it is not an
unbelted body that flies
through the windshield to hit
the pavement at 50 kph. It's a
human being. It could be
your child, wife, husband,
father, mother, sister,
brother or best friend.
For26years, National Safe
Driving Week has been held
from December 1 to 7 to
bring an awareness to
Canadians of the ongoing toll
in human lives taken by
traffic crashes.
There can be a reduction in
traffic fatalities and injuries.
Please do your part and
drive defensively throughout
the year.

meeting of Clinton Council, the resignation of Florence
Elliott was accepted by councll. No further details were
released, but council is advertising for another fulltime
secretary to replace her.

Council defeated a . resolution from Bruce County's
Township alt Greenock, supporting the construction of
more nuclear goner plants to expressly transport power
to TheUnited Slates.
Councillor Aon McKay noted that he was not an expert
on nuclear power and did not feel authorized to vote on the
resolution. He also explained that he was not opposed to
nuclear power, butthe disposal of the waste material.
Council defeated the resolution, thus strengthening a
motion passed at their November 2nd meeting when a
resolution from Township of West Nissouri called for
stricter controls on the nuclear power and its export to
foreigncountries.

BEAVERS SCOUTS'
1st Clinton Beaver Colony:
Last Thursday, Nov. 19, Beavers spent an hour at the
Clinton Public Hospital. Thanks to candy -stripers Carol
Cartwright acid Helen Kolkman, Beavers were able to learn
and understand a little more about our hospital. Beavers
enjoyed cookies and juice before returning to the pond
On Saturday, Nov. 21 it was a time for learning about the
world as Beavers spent a very busy `day in Stratford. The
morning started with a visit to the fire hall, where firemen
Garry Ladouceur, Bernie Larvardance, Terry Martell and
Rick Micks allowed the boys to become firemen for a short
time.
From there the Beavers travelled to MacDonalds where
our hostess Janice was on hand to serve the Beavers in the
famous MacDonald fashion. On to the police station and
Constable Dennis Jackson. Here the Heavers sat in. the jail,
visited the shooting range and saw many up-to.date methods
of the Police Department. A film MaiSam-theSafety Man
ended our tour' of the station.
A little free time in the children's library was greatly
enjoyed by the Beavers then up to auditorium and a fun hour
with Abra the Magic Clown. A colony of tired Beavers and
leaders returned home to Clinton with a bag of cookies to
enjoy on the way.
A special thanks to drivers and helpers Marie Johnston,
Linda Bosman, Allison Lobb, Florence Elliott, Larry Gib-
bingg and Bud Walker.
