Mulhern, President. Volunteers are needed. Drive safely next week, and all weeks The Canada Safety Council announces 1981 National Safe Driving Week December 1-7. The purpose of Safe Driving Week is to alert Canadians everywhere that risk of death or injury from traffic crashes is still a horrendous social problem in Canada During 1980, there were 5,459 traffic fatalities in Canada Preliminary figures indicate there will be over 5,600 traffic fatalities in 1981. Certainly the loss of 5,600 lives in one year from any other single cause would be regarded as a major national disaster. Traffic fatalities do not happen to cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles. They happen to people. In a traffic collision, it is not an unbelted body that flies through the windshield to hit the pavement at 50 kph. It's a human being. It could be your child, wife, husband, father, mother, sister, brother or best friend. For26years, National Safe Driving Week has been held from December 1 to 7 to bring an awareness to Canadians of the ongoing toll in human lives taken by traffic crashes. There can be a reduction in traffic fatalities and injuries. Please do your part and drive defensively throughout the year. Beavers enjoyed cookies and juice before returning to the pond On Saturday, Nov. 21 it was a time for learning about the world as Beavers spent a very busy `day in Stratford. From there the Beavers travelled to MacDonalds where our hostess Janice was on hand to serve the Beavers in the famous MacDonald fashion. On to the police station and Constable Dennis Jackson.
