ADMIN. HURON COUNTY HOME CARE PROGRAM The Huron County Home Care Program is a short term active treatment pro. gram that can be used as an alternative to hospital care. There are a total of 38 pro- grams in the Province of On- tario covering approximate- ly 99 percent of the popula- tion. Presently, 21 of these 38 programs are able to pro- vide maintenance (chronic) care in addition • to the short term active treatment pro- gram. The goal of the Home Care Program is to assist patients and families to reach op- timum health through the provision of co-ordinated multi -disciplinary profes- sional services appropriate for the patient's care in the home. The program is financed 100 percent by the Ontario Ministry of Health which means there is no charge to the patient and is ad- ministered by the Huron County Health Unit. Anyone interested in receiving health care at home must be under medical supervision of a doctor and must meet specific criteria for eligibility for admission as established by the Ministry. Generally, anyone who has an active OHIP number and a medical condi- tion that can be adequately treated at home through the professional services of either a registered nurse, physiotherapist, occupa- tional, therapist, enterostomal therapist or • a nutritionist is eligible. An- cillary services provided in addition to the professional services, include drugs, dressings, and medical sup- plies, meals on wheels, homemaking, equipment on a loan basis and transportation in ex- tenuating circumstances. Some advantages of con- valescing at home include: 1) People are often more comfortable and content in the familiar home setting. 2) Being at home frequent- ly stimulates a person to more activity . and in- dependence than is possible in a hospital setting which can be conducive to a speedy recovery. Equipment, such as hospital beds, can be made available for those who are acutely ill or who require more intensive treatment and family members and -or other appropriate persons are expected to be willing and able to participate in the program. Mrs. Sheila Lancaster, the Home Care co-ordinator, regularly visits each county hospital, as well as families at home, when required, to arrange Home Care services for patients who have been referred by their family doc- tor. By consulting the patients and their families in the hospital and -or community, services are arranged to pro- vide support and continuity of care. Interested persons can receive more information by contacting your family physician, the Home Care Program at 482-3411, or your local Public Health Nurse, Wingham council supports industry WINGHAM - The Wingham Town Council is going to start looking for ways to encourage the establishment of growth of industry in the town. Councillor Richard LeVan told council that nothing really positive has been accomplished in that area. during the pest year. He proposed a more vigorous effort, during the coming year. He noted that attracting new industries to the town would not be easy but said, Tt's up to us as a councli to try and improve industrial development within the vonrnunity." Wingham doesn't have as ,!.•h to offer industry as gay ambridge or Waterloo, (owncillor LeVan added, so it must develop a positive attitude to convince in- dustries it is a good place to call home.
