Rev. McMullen spoke for a few minutes to explain the "Corn for the Horn" project in Africa. The president, Beatrice Stoll, opened the business part of the meeting and the secretary Barbara Moffatt, read the minutes of the last meetingand took the roll call. A letter was read from our• foster child and donations made to the John Milton Society for the blind and the Homebound Care program, shut-in boxes to be packed on December 2. The next meeting will be a pot luck dinner at 12:30 p.m. at the Deceg,ber 1st meeting. The meeting closed and lunch was served by Tuckersmith Unit. b .. Brucefield news and notes By Isabel Scott A well -attended shower was held Last Wed., Nov. 4th at the Church hall for Janet Graham.. Words of welcome were extended by . Joan Greenewald. A skit entitled "Planning a shower" was enacted by Norma McGregar, Myrtle Taylor, Jean Rathwell and Joan Greenewald. The address to Janet was read by Dianne Vanderwal. The gifts were opened by Janet, who thanked everyone and invited them to open house on Nov. 9th. Our best wishes to Janet and Paulwhose wedding will take place on Nov. 14th at 4 p.m. at Brucefield Church. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dallas on the occasion of their 60th wed- ding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Jackson visited a few days in Peterborough with Mr. and Mrs. J. Mahoney and family. Mrs.'Hligh Berry visited in London and in Toronto with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Elliott and family last week. Mrs. Pearl Eyre and Mrs. Edna Paterson have' return- ed from an enjoyable bus trip to California. Warden honoured By Stephanie Levesque GODeRICH - Huron Coun- ty Warden Fred Haberer was honored at a banquet here and besides glowing praise for his work in the past year, received a corner china cabinet. Wardens from neighboring counties, members of parlia- ment, county council members, county employees and members of Warden Haberer's family were all present at the banquet. As Reeve of Village of Zurich, Warden Haberer was commended for being first to lead county council in its revised state. That is, reduced members on coun- cil. He was also praised for his effort towards settling a two-year wage settlement with Ontario Nurses' Association Local 168. Besides the warden, Mrs. Haberer was congratulated for being a gracious hostess during many events in the past year. Warden Haberer referred, to his year as warden as "next to my family, the highlight of my life". He said he did not achieve all he had set out to accomplish, but because of economic restraint, became tnore realistic. Warden Haberer also took the honors of being the best milker in Huron County, an award he received at a fair during summer months. He proudly displayed his trophy to those in attendance. As part of the program, the Craigellen Singers of Goderich sang several selec- tions, under direction of Mrs. Ila Worsell. The dinner, held at North Street United Chur- ch, was catered by United Church Women. A danoe followed at the Goderich and District Memorial Com- munity Centre.
