John Grejcb.' us scores 180 in darts
By
Steve Cooke
Last Saturday at the Fish
and Game Club where the
Huron County Dart League
held their games, John
Greidanus scored a perfect
180 during the practice warns
up. Then, just to prove that
he really is good, he turned
around and did it again
during a game later on. Well
done John, and if you start
pulling that stint off on a
regular basis, we'll send you
off on a tournament to
represent Branch 140.
The district sports meeting
on Sunday saw a crowd of
over 100 attending from all
parts' of the Zone. Among
some of the notables present
were Art Riordan, the
district sports rep and Len
Dunkell, the district com-
mander. George Rumball

Reading and computers
dominate the professional
development day agenda for
the Huron County elemen
tary and secondary school
teachers on October 30.
Superintendent of educa-
tion R. J. McCall said ac-
tivities are open to the
public. He noted secondary
school activities would take
place at Goderich District
Collegiate Institute and
elementary activities will be
divided into four areas.

The trend toward smaller
cars is making life even
harder for people in
wheelchairs, say
bioengineers. Compact
designs are more difficult to
get in and out of, . to putt a
wheelchair into, and would
be even more cramped when
special driving aids such as
hand and feet controls are
added,

LONDESBORO LIONS
A highlight of the day will
be a presentation by Don
Holdaway of New Zealand,
presently on the faculty of
Althouse at Western Univer-
sity, London. Mr. Holdaway
is a renowned authority in
the area of reading and will
be speaking at GDCI in the
afternoon.
Morning topics at GDCI
range from time manage-
ment to building self-esteem
in the classroom. Speakers
range from faculty members
of Western, to secondary
school teachers, to represen-
tatives of the Ontario Secon-
dary School Teachers'
Federation (OSSTF).
At the elementary level,
the four areas are Brussels
Public School in the north,
Brookside Public School in
the west, Clinton . Public
School in the central area
and Exeter Public School in
the south.
Besides reading and com-
puters, topics include
mathematics, teachers and
the law, public relations, the
gifted child and several
similar topics as discussed
at the secondary level.
This PD day is one of two
during the school year in
which teachers get together
for activities out of their
schools. Other PD day ac-
tivities are usually confined
to individual schools.
Prior to planning PD days,
teachers select topics they
would like discussed.
r
them for their participation
at the end of the day. Steve
Maguire, Gord Tait, John
Scott and John Deeves were
also present to represent
Branch 140. As usual, the.
ladies. provided an excellent
dinner and a heartfelt thanks
goes out to them.
In darts last week, Karen
Greidanus and Terry
Hollingshead were the high
couple. Madelon Yeats took
high score for the ladies,
while Brian Atkinson
cleaned up for the men.
Brenda Atkinson and John
Scott teamed up to turn in
the lowest scores. We
apologize, Brenda, and
promise not to stick you with
Scott again next week, as we
know how hard it is to get a
good score when you're play
with a dud.
At euchre, Doug Cameron
took the high score, and Reg
Ball won the distinction of
coming in last. Jack Yeo won
the lone hands for the nig&t
with a total of six.
At mixed euchre, Blanche
Deeves and Marg Switzer
teamed up to win the night.
Marg took the high Ladies
score, while Blanche won the
low. John Deeves won high
man, and Dorothy O'Connell
won men's low. Fred
Jackson won the most lone
hands for the night. The
turnout for this event was
very minimal and unless
more people participate, it
will be dropped for the
future. ,Please keep an eye
out for time next date it's on.
Don't forget the poppy
campaign coming up on Nov.
4th. We can use your help, so
get in touch with Gord Tait
for more details. An hour's
work from you can make a
big difference.
There are still some tee
shirts available at the bar, so
if you want one, get it now.
Twelve' new members
were initiated at the general
meeting on Monday night,
and we would like to take this
opportunity to welcome
them all to Branch 140. We
hope we can serve you well,
and hope you also help. us
