The bus trip for this Satur- day September 26th is almost full with only seven places left. We are still short of that, magical figure of 44 people, however, to qualify for the .00 donation from the bus company to our building fund, so if you don't have anything on, get down to the branch and sign up. Hard facts silences council SEAFORTH - The hard facts, that a new arena could cost the town $1.5 million, silenced Seaforth council at a recent meeting. "We can't afford it," said Mayor John Sinnamon, but agreed to have Clerk Jim Crocker proceed with preliminary grant ap- plications. If the proposed new fire hall is also built, the town's share of that, plus the new arena, could boost the average homeowner's tax bill, to an additional $177 for the first year, $105 for the next two years and $45 for the following seven years. This, could be considerably higher, if the town fund raising efforts fall short by $100,000 on both projects. Taxpayers would then be looking at a $276 addition in their tax bills for the first year, $204 for the next two years and $138 for the next seven years. Clerk Crocker stressed that the figures aren't definite and the actual costs wild fall somewhere bet- ween the two extremes. It's going to be a busy weekend, however, as the Huron County Dart League starts off with its first game in Blyth at 1:30 sharp on Saturday. Check the sports board for more information. The Zone Cl meeting will also be held in Seaforth on Sunday September. 27th at 1:30 so if you're free again, plan to attend. We would also like to ex- tend. our congratulations to, John • Lawson for an ex- cellent performance in the Terry Fox run. John has done his part, so'if you sign- ed a pledge, it's time to do yours. We would like to get the money in as soon as possible to the Cancer fund, so please drop your commit- ment off at the bar. Our first general meeting will take place on Monday, September 28th and we would really like to see some participation this year. How about getting out and getting involved for a change. Mixed darts will be getting underway on October 1st, with the first night falling on the lst. Everyone is welcome, and the first darts will be thrown at 8:00 PM sharp. If you're not too sure about how to throw a dart, John Scott will be on hand to give you a proper lesson. (He also will show you how to throw darts.) Just one word of advice for the neophyte however. Don't expect to be as good as our boy John right off the start. It takes years of devotion to develop the right point of balance and center of gravity to become an ex- pert like John. Tuesday night visitors to the branch will soon be treated to the sound of thum- ping tables, raucous laughter and good natured (for the most part) jibes as Men's euchre takes pp its usual spot. The first night wil be on Oct. 6th and it officially starts at 7:30 PM. It wouldn't hurt to arrive a little early, however, to give yourself time to register, get rea- quainted, and loosen up the old wrist a bit before the pasteboards start flying. Well, as I; said, things are starting to happen so we'll look forward to seeing you at Branch 140. The Fatally of 111rs.
