It will be a quick dash
from the stage of one of On-
tario's biggest summer
festivals to another when
Beth Anne Cole opens the
winter theatre program at
the Blyth Centre for the Arts
on October 7.
Miss Cole will be starring
in Rose Marie at the Shaw
Festival at Niagara -on -the -
Lake until a few days before
the performance in Blyth of
her one -woman show "Songs
From The Theatre".
Miss Cole drew rave
reviews for her starring role
in the musical at the Shaw
Festival, one more
testimony to the talent of this
rising star of the musical
stage.
Songs From The Theatre
has been polished over many
weeks of performing by Miss
Cole across Canada in the
last two years again to rave
reviews and full houses.
McKenzie Porter of the
Toronto Sun rhapsodized:
"Beth Anne Cole can act as
well as she can sing. And she
can sing as sweetly as a
sparrow, as passionately as
a nightingale and as ironical-
ly as a mocking bird. If
necessary, she can dance
with comparable artistry."
Miss table's show takes
songs from the theatre, some
familiar, some long forgot-
ten and makes them live
again. Alone on stage except
for her accompanist, with
few costumes or props she

Gorilla playing Beethoven?
Ever see a gorilla play
Beethoven? That will be part
of the fun at Blyth Memorial
Hall when Camerata puts on
a special children's concert,
Saturday, October 17 at 2
p.m.
• The concert includes the
works of Brahms, Beethoven
and Schubert among others
but it's all wrapped up in a
package of hilarious antics
that will have even those
who think they hate classical
music wishing the 50 minute
concert would never end.
The gorilla comes in dur-
ing a rather mixed-up ver-
sion of "Little Red Riding
Hood" that takes up 12
minutes of the concert. The
concert's length can vary
because it develops spon-
taneously from 'the
children's reactions and
responses.
The group encourages par-
ticipation from their young
audience. An example would
be that Camerata calls the
"mood" section of its pro-
gram. The children are ask-
ed to suggest words which
describe the feelings such as
"happy", "sad",
or "ex-
cited". Camerata then plays
a piece which best illustrates
those varying moods.
Another part of the pro -
.gram is an "Opera Spoof",
in which Mary Lou Fallis
satirizes cadenzas and other
styles of operatic singing.
Vocal pieces are chosen
which are particularly ac-
cessible and amusing to
children. The "Doll Aria"
from Offenbach's "Tales of
Hoffman" is included along
with songs from Winnie The

During the next few months, we will be
studying a number of alternative plans for
electrical transmission in southwestern
Ontario. The study will look at the alternatives
from many points of view, including cost,
wise use of land and effects on the environ-
ment. The goal is to determine which
plan is the best choice, for all of us, and
then to submit a recommendation to
government.
After a plan is approved, further studies with
public participation and hearings will lead to

the eventual construction of transmission lines.
Your questions, comments and input at
this early stage are important in helping us
make the best possible recommendation.
To help you learn more about the study we've
prepared a special information kit.
Please send for it today and be part of the
study that will plan for future electrical trans-
mission in southwestern Ontario. You are
also invited to attend a "Study Information
Centre" to ask questions and make
suggestions first hand.
