A mock wedding provided the entertainment at a shower for bride -elect Kathy Peck at Goshen r church on Saturday afternoon. The ladies of Goshen north took part, with special music on the autoharp by Norene Hayter and vocals by Norene and by Leslie and Hayley Linfield. The bride's father literally "pushed vacuum cleaners" as he escorted her - down the aisle, and he didn't forget to plug his radio business either -- he was wearing headphones. Geraldine Eckel read an address of good wishes, and Kathy was assisted in opening her lovely and useful gifts by her mother and Mrs. Youngblut. An open house will be held at Mrs. Peck's home on the Wednesday following the wedding. UCW meeting President Doris Wilson opened the September meeting of the Varna U.C.W. with the poem "Three little Words". The theme of worship was "This is the Day That the Lord Has Made", with scripture from Psalm 103 and the brims "Amazing Grace" and "This is the Day". A skit "The Days That Count" stressed the value of each phase of a woman's life. Margaret Hayter will be the reader from Vama at the Regional meeting on Oct. 8 at Walton. There will be a special thank -offering meeting here on Oct. 1 with guests from neighbouring U.C.W. groups. Ruth Johnston was appointed to the Manse Committee to replace Mildred McAsh and a committee of Joyce Dowson, Mary Chessell and Rev. W17ena Brown was appointed to set up billets for the students of the first year class at Emmanuel College when they visit hereon Oct. 6 and 7. Please remember to fill out the form you received in the letter from the minister if you'd like to entertain some these students and help them learn about rural life. Many of them are middle- aged people who have been called from other oc- cupations, and all should be interesting guests. George Cowan of Dungannon will be the guest preacher for Varna Anniversary service at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Tomb to be restored GODERICH - The Ontario Heritage Foundation has awarded a grant of 88,100 to the Huron County Pioneer Museum to assist in the improvement of Tiger Dunlop's tomb site north of Goderich, a place of scenic beauty and provincial historical significance. The grant will be used by the museum for general landscaping and improving the access to the tomb of Dr. William "Tiger" Dunlop (1792-1848) who used his considerable abilities to help develop the Huron Tract as a member of the Canada Company . The 120 -odd rickety wooden steps leading to the tomb will be removed and replaced by a nature trail. In past years, the steps have been in constant repair due to vandalism and it is hoped that the construction of a trail will help to alleviate this problem
