Start your
new lawns
Now is an excellent time to
plant a new lawny or to
rebuild a worn out lawn, says
Bob Fleming, Horticultural
Research Institute of
Ontario, Vineland. •
To plant a fall lawn,
prepare the soil as you
normally prepare your
garden, cultivating to a
depth of 110 centimetres (four
'inches).
Add a fertilizer low in
nitrogen and high in
phosphorus. Fleming
recommends 5-20-20 to 5-20-
10.
Before sowing, rake, level
and roll the soil, then sow a
high quality grass mixture
containing Kentucky blue
grasses and some creeping
red fescue.
When buying seed; always
get good quality seed, warns
Fleming. A bargain -priced
seed often turns out to be no
bargain at all when the grass
comes up.
Kenmarou 'Castlee was
fourth in a 2:03 mile for
Wayne Horner of Clinton in
