Paull at their service last Sunday. Mrs. Jeanne Bennett assisted by reading the lesson and EdwardDeenes received the offering. A.C.W. Meet The A.C.W. of St. James held their September meeting at the home of Mrs. Stewart ^ Middleton. Estelle Wise was the leader in charge and she welcomed everyone to the first meeting of the fall session. Estelle read a poem to open the meeting. The ladies all sang a hymn with Sarah Storey playing the piano. Estelle read the Invocation. Vera Meller in the absence of Delore Dutot read the Scripture and Meditation and prayers were said in unison. Estelle thanked Maragret for opening her home and a special welcome was given to Mrs. Helen Merner, a guest at the Meeting. Audrey Middleton read the minutes of the last meeting and Audrey read the correspondence including a letter from Mrs. Jean Koening a guest speaker on the North last spring, also a letter from Monica House was received. Vera Meller read a letter from Compassion and was moved by Audrey Middleton we send a donation to Compassion for clothes. A motion was made to pay the printers bill. Vera Miller gave the treasurer's report and Blanche Deeves gave her card report. Lynda Steenstra gave a summary of tickets sales on the quiet and Estelle Wise gave a humorous reading. A discussion was held on Thanksgiving Sunday and everyone agreed to decorate the church. The group received a request to serve lunch for the Blue Water unit of the CNIB on September 15. Maragret Middleton, Marion Smith and Blanche Deeves are to tak care of the lunch. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Jeanne Ben- nett of Bayfield. Blanche Deeves is the leader in charge. Estelle gave a reading before asking Lynda to proceed with the draw of the Quilt. Lynda asked Marion Smith to make the draw' The winner was Mrs. Florence Elliott of Varna. The luncheon cloth was won by M. Struthers of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Discussion was held on a quilt for next year. Lunch was served by the hostess and Audrey Middleton People report Mrs. Elizabeth Mullens of Ottawa visited with her mother, Mrs. Fred Mid- dleton over the weekend and they had dinner Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Counter of Clinton. By the time the paper is out Ray Dupuis should be home from hospital and we wish him continued im- provement. Ivan and Kitty Lyn Dutot had to stay while Mother Linda had her ap- pendix removed in London f) hospital. Get well wishes to Fraser Stirling who is a patient in Clinton hospital. Weather doesn't • dampen fair MITCHELL - Despite threatening weather on all four days, the 127th version of the Mitchell Fall Fair attracted many visitors. According to fair president Russell Miller, the fair had fine crowds on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th with over 3,000 people watching the tug -o -war and demolition derby on Sunday. Mr. Miller said that despite wet grounds which resulted in the cancellation of the western show on Friday night, the crowds for the evening were down only slightly compared to last year.
