Margaret and Ivan McCly- nnont will be showing pic- tures and telling about their trip to England and Scotland at Thursday evening's UCW meeting. Jim relived scenes of his boyhood around the lochs at Strontian where he lived from the age of six until he came to Canada in 1928. . They visited Jim's three foster sisters, two of whom are in a nursing home. It was a happy reunion, and"just in OPP report time, as one of them died two days before they left for home. Other highlights of their visit included seeing Princess Grace of Monaco open the National Rose Show; beautiful Blenheim Palace where Winston Chur- chill was horn and the lovely grounds which surround it; Yorkminster Cathedral; stayin with their cousins who live in a chalet in Kilburny; the band tattoo, parade and concert at Largs; and on the last night of their trip, the Fiddler's Jamboree at Largs which featured a wonderful group of musicians who have.enter- tained royalty on many occa- sions. I really enjoyed seeing the pictures of your white water rafting trip. I still think you should send them to the newspaper. Can you believe, summer is almost over. One more week and peace will reign again in our houses. This peace will not come for free, as you well know, what with back to school clothes and books and all, but it will certainly be worth every penny. Let's go to Festival Square in Stratford on Sat. We arrived there so late the last time we barely had an hour to shop before closing time. Ragamuffin on the second floor you didn't see this shop last time! has everything for the little rotters from Christening dresses to jeans and really pretty dresses and tops, You'll want to -stay for hours just playing with the bei'criful dolls. puppets, and really good toys. You mentioned that Val loves kilts. Ragam ffin has a full line to choose from. By the way, should someone ask you what he should buy me for our anniversary, as he usually does, you can tell him that I'd love to have an Antique Ivory Dowry bracelet or an Angel Skin coral necklace. I II show you exactly the ones I like at Phoenix on the main floor of the Square. I understand that they have the finest collection of antique ivory jewellery in North America. ;,Can you imagine that in a place so close to home and not Toronto or New York1. They also have fabulous Antique Mongolian jewellery, Red, as well as Angel Skin Coral. and British Columbian lade. Oh, I almost forgot your special passion: they have a large selection of wicker furniture, plus so much more. know you will want to go to Gordon's Ladies' Wear again The one thing I'm buying for myself for sure this weekend is a Sheffler-Hillman pure wool skirt It will probably be my last chance. The S.H. plant is closing after more than 100 years of making beautiful clothes.. You know what I , Iways maintain - a good wool skirt or suit is an absolute must in a wardrobe, and it will look good forever Gordon's don't charge an arm and a leg either, as you noticed the last time we were there Sally asked me to pick up a men's wear shirt (made for women1 for her, she just loves the two I have. I guess we had better spend some time on the brats We can get notebooks and pens and stuff in town during the week, but I promised to get some (poles notes for my nephew along with a list of, gooks as long as my arm, but that won't lake long. Oh, I almost forgot. We can't miss Stephenson's, on the main floor They have another section on the second floor across from the Ragamuffin I get real) unique gift ideas and always end up buying something from their Gourmet Kitchenware line, not to men.tion their imported crystal and antiques lust a great place to browse around in I always feel I could make my kitchen a toy to wnrh In with just a little effort on my part and some help from Stephenson s Oopg' Our stomachs Can you believe I of all people. could forget rood' Vs,' can lunch in the Terrace Restaurant in the Square It is bright and airy with lots of plants, and windows that give a great view of the city The food Is really good too It you are determined to diet, you can have a cocktail and a salad whole I gorge mvsell as usual. So many people don't bother going into places like Festival Square because they assume it is going to be expensive We certainly found that is not the c asf where Festival Square is concerned We would have missed out on great bus s interesting ,stores and qualityerc handise at reasonable pr es See you Sat Your turn 1ol1 ive this month By the way how about some shopping ideas from you I've kept no secrets so he prepared 10 wan up This ,s ae alum a"r^t+r' Betty i j
