Clinton News-Record, 1981-09-02, Page 13Clinton and area deaths Evelyn Greer A Stanley Township native and lifelong resident, Mrs. Evelyn E. Greer, died in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich on August 26th. She was 82 years old. Mrs. Greer was born in Stanley to John and Alma Scotchmer .on October 28, 1898. She was married to Robert G. Greer in 1918 in Bayfield and the couple farmed in Stanley Township. Mrs. Greer was a life member of the United Church Women and a member of the St. Andrew's United Church in Bayfield. She was predeceased by her husband in 1953 and one daughter Eileen in 1975. She is survived by one daughter Mrs. Keith (Jc.in) Layton of RR 5, Clinton and three sons Bert, Mel and Clifford, all of RR3, Bayfield. Mrs. Greer was predeceased by one brother Clifford and is survived by four brothers, Roy and Charles of Bay field and Jack and Gordon of RR 3, Bayfield. She was predeceased by one grandson and is survived by eight grandchildren arid seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on August 28, 1981 from the Beattie FuneralHome in Clinton. Alun Thomas frofn St. Andrew's United Church officiated and interment followed in the Bayfield cemetery. The pallbearers included Raymond Scotchmer, Ronald Scotchmer, Jim Collins, Bill Scotchmer, Donald Welsh and Gordon Porter. The flower bearers Homemakers plan Japanese dinner The Board of Directors of Town and Country Homemakers held their regular monthly meeting at the hcrr_e of Gwyn Whllsmith where members enjoyed a lovely lunch on the shores of St. Joseph. Tickets were distributed to each member for "Japanese Cuisine" to be held in Sep- tember. It was reported that the spring bulbs should be available for sale 'at this event. The committee from the north end of the county reported that plans are underway _for a variety concert featuring good local entertainment to he held in October at the F .E. Madill Secondary School in Wingharn. Hopefully this "may be an annual fund- raising event with everything from music to comedy," says Bev. Brown, Chairman of the Board. Executive Director, Jean Young informed the board that to date, $16,002 has been raised. for the building fund for the office on Victoria Street.. Fannie Clark At Queensway Manor, Hensall on Monday, August 10, 1981, Mrs. Fannie Clark died in her 92nd year. Widow of the late Louis Clark, she was the mother of Ethel (Mrs. Frank Forrest of Hensall; step -mother of Mrs. Sarah Wren of Hensall and Mrs. Mary Buchanan of London. She is also survived by five ,grandchildren, 11 great .grandchildren, and four great great grand- children. A memorial service under the Auspices of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Associa- tion Ledge No. 377 was held on Wednesday evening. The funeral was held on Thursday, August 13th at the Bonthron Chapel of Michael P. O'Connor. The service was conducted by the Rev. G.A. Anderson of Trivitt Memorial Anglican Church, Exeter, and the lesson was read by the Rev. Dr. Max- well Parker, of London. Pallbearers were Ivan Wren, Ervin Bestard, Clark Forrest, Lloyd Nichol, E.J. Roberts and Robert McGregor. MR. AND MRS. E. BRUCE HOUGH Huronview folk enjoy barbecue skies, ladies from second floor, ground floor center, men's floor and first floor north enjoyed their bar- becue. The van was on the go all day Wednesday with a trip to Wingham on Wednesday morning with Helen Fisher. Men from special care took a ride to Seaforth stopping on the way to have an ice cream cone at the Freeze King. A most restful time was spent on Thursday afternoon listening to the organ music of Ed Stiles. Ed has been coming to Huronview for many years to play for the residents and is most ap- preciated by them. Sym- pathy is expressed to the families of Stan Goudie, and Amy' Heard. Matron of honour was Theresa Schnare, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Janet Weido, Frances Hummel, Frieda Zandbergen and Helen Bouman. The best man was Ed Bouman, brother of the groom. Guests were ushered by Eric Nonkes, Wayne Lyon, Ron Zandbergen and Michael Neutel. After a honeymoon trip to Northern Ontario and Niagara Falls the couple are residing at RR 1, Londesboro. Bruce Hough of Clinton and Sandra Dee Nivins of Goderich were united in marriage. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Nivins of Goderich and the groom is the son of Mrs. Mary Hough of Clinton. The Reverend Robert 0. Ball officiated at the double, ring ceremony The bride and groom walked down the aisle together. The bride wore a white crepe street length dress with white lace shawl. She wore mauve baby's breath in her hair and carried a silk bouquet of mauve and pink glads with morning glories. Maid of honor was Eunice Batkin of Clinton. She wore a mauve street length dress with matching vest and carried an open -armed bouquet of fresh mauve glads and white baby's breath. Bridesmaids were Karen Juantzi of Clinton, Freda Hill of Bayfield and Bonnie Mathers and Bev Walsh, both of Clinton. They were gowned the same as the maid of honor and carried the sa me bouquets. Groomsman was Greg Bird ofGoderich. Guests were ushered into the church by John Bird and Larry Hawkins of Goderich and Randy Garrow and Steve Walsh off Clinton. Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held at Saltford Valley Hall The bride's mother gre^ted guests wearing a street length silk dress in colors of autumn and cocoa with a yellow carnation corsage. The groom's mother assisted wearing a street length, blue crimplene dress with a pink carnation cor- sage. Friends and relatives attended from Goderich, Clinton, St. Thomas, Kit- chener, Port Hope, Toronto, London, Mount Forest and Wiarton. For a wedding trip to Niagara Falls and a Thousand Island cruise in Kingston, the bride changed to a white dress with a mauve orchid corsage. Mr. and Mrs. Hough will reside in Clinton.
