The Clinton club have their last outside one on Sep- tember 13 ( Trebles, so we are hoping fora good turnout also good weather). At the jitney of Alagust 25, Cliff Ashton was the winner for the, men, while Dorothy Grange won the ladies. Several bowlers went to Seaforth on August 26 for their 52nd anniversary tournament. Walt Newcombe and Della Slavin, Bert and Jean Gray, Cliff and Norma Ashton were among the winners. At the August 27 jitney, Troy Falconer and Doug Ball were tied, also Della Slavin and Dorothy Grange tied. On August 28, Bert and Jean Gray brought home a prize from the Brussels tournament. Herbie the hot dog wan was well represented at the Ba® field Nall Fair. His two daughters, Katie and hell® ad%ertisied dad's business. (Shelley 11el'hee photo) Hugh Campbell teachers meet Yesterdays and todays were the main topics of conversation at the Garnet and Phyllis Harland home, RR 5, Clinton on August 19th when more than 20 teachers from the old Hugh Campbell Public School were reunited. Mr. Garland, a former teacher and principal at the Canadian Forces Base School, now Vanastra Public School and Conestoga College, hosted the reunion, the first one in 10 years. Teachers came from Clinton, Petrolia, Chatham, Trenton, Blyth, Varna and Seaforth and according to Carol Simons of Varna, "We really enjoyed the event." There is a full list of all the teachers at the school, with current addresses, and Mrs. Simons said, "We hope to. hold and bigger reunion in the future." The school's history In September, 1948 the Hugh Campbell School was opened at the RCAF Station in Clinton for the children of the five families living there. In 1949, 26 pupils were enrolled and by 1950 the enrollment had risen to 90 pupils with the opening of the Public Married Quarters. Mr. C.A. Trott of Seaforh was the principal and he and Miss Clara Clarke of Bayfield had junior and seniors classes, while Mrs. Chambers taught the in- termediate grades. By September 1951, the Hugh Campbell School had been built and enrollment was up to 130 pupils. As the RCAF Station grew, so did the number of pupils andtop enrolment was 450 students. The children came from all parts of the world and made up an extraordinary school. The Station closed in 1971 and the school was closed at that time. Today the white - sided uilding is home to the Vanastra Public School and the Clinton campus of Conestoga College. Inside Wilderness survival fun The Falls Reserve Con- servation Area will hold its last special weekend program of the year, Sep- tember 5 to 7. Outdoor recreation and wilderness survival will be emphasized. Day -users as well as cam- pers are invited to par- ticipate in the fun! On Friday at dusk, join Walt Disney's characters as they give tips on outdoor sports during the moonlight movies. On Saturday at 1 p.m. explore the wilderness around the area on a scavenger hunt. Later, at 4 p.m., staff will point out some of the_ edible foods of the wild on a hike through the Falls Reserve_ During the arts and crafts session on Sunday at 11 a.m., nature craft Pictures and wallhangings will be made. Middleton AC By Manche Deeves Morning Prayer was held in St. James Anglican Church on Sunday morning. Rev. Wm. Bennett chose for his sermon "The Collect for the day". James Storey and Don Middleton received the offering. The A.C.W. of St. James will meet on September 10 at 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Middleton. The draw for the quilt will be made this evening. Church care for Sep- tember will be looked after by .Lynda Steenstra and Lois Wise. We of the St. James Parish are sorry to learn that Mrs. Fred Hudie is a patient in Clinton Hospital Congratulations to Deane and Bruce Miller on the arrival of their first son, also to Keith and Vera Miller their first grandson. Mr. Fred Middleton, Don and Audrey Middleton, spent Sunday with the Grindlay family at Snowden Acres. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Esdale of Ottawa have been visiting with Mrs. Fred Middleton and having visited with Campbells and Counters earlier in Clinton. Ellis of London and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Johnston and wee son Gary. I would like to thank those who helped John keep our news in the paper while Edward and I enjoyed our trip to the East coast. On our trip we enjoyed many evenings of cards with Mel and Lila Webster of Clinton.
