Hoid a lively auction
The Summerhill Laches
Club met at the home of
Helen Lyons on Aug. 12, with
15 members and four visitors
present. The roll call was
answered by bringing some
article for the auction sale,
and Gladys Van Egmond
welcomed visitors, thanking
Helen for having' the
meeting.
The treasurer's report was
given by Jean Vodden and
thank -you notes were read
from Harold Tyndall, Susan
Gross, and Russell Good.
There will be a bridal shower
for Jo -Anne Salverda at the
hall on Thursday, Aug. 27 at
8 p.m. and all ladies of the
community are invited.
Gladys thanked all who
helped at,. the annual picnic
in July and it was moved
that the club send a $25 dona-
tion to the Van Egmond
House in Seaforth.
The raffle and anniversary
money were collected with
Jo -Anne Salverda winning
the raffle. A lively auction
was held with Sandra
Westerhout acting as auc-
tioneer.
The program consisted of
a relay race by Lorna Ellis
and Sandra Westerhout's
team won. Evelyn Merrill
had some blues chasers and
a contest which was won by
Marianne Colclough. Vera
Gibbings had a contest and it
was won by Lorna Ellis.
The next meeting is set for
September 9 at, 8:30 p.m. at
the home of Hazel Watkins
and roll call is to bring your
favourite flower. Those on
the lunch and program ar'

ings and Verna Gibbings.
Clinton and area deaths
Amy Heard
Amy heard who was born
in Clinton before the turn of
the century died at Huron -
view on August 17th. She was
91 -years -old.
Mrs. Heard was born in
Clinton on August 11, 1890 to
Mr. and Mrs. Homer F.
Andrews. On March 3, 1952
she was married to John
Leonard Heard in Centralia
and the couple made their
home in Clinton where Mrs.
Heard was a member of the
Ontario Street United
Church.
Mrs. Heard was
predeceased by her husband.
and one daughter Mrs.
Albert (Margaret) Shore.
She is survived by three
children, Mrs. Fred
(Evelyn) Sandy, Mrs.
Robert (Mildred) Cooper
and Frank. Also surviving
are eight grandchildren and
14 great grandchildren..
Funeral services were
held at the Ball and Falconer
Funeral Home in Clinton on
Wednesday, August 19th
with Rev. James Bechtel
officiating. Interment
followed in the Clinton
Cemetery.
The pallbearers included
Homer Andrews, Don
Andrews, BobDraper, Percy
Brown and Cam Proctor, all
of Clinton, and Harry
McEwan of Chatham.
Luella
McPherson
A Lucknow native, Luella
Elizabeth McPherson, died
in Wingham and District
Hospital in Wingham on
August 11, 1981. She was 72.
Mrs. McPherson was born
in West Wawanosh Town-
ship on November 26, 1908,
to Alexander Rintoul and
Jean Gillies. She was later
married to Ewart McPherson
who predeceased her in
1978.
Mrs. McPherson is surviv-
ed by two daughters, Flor-
ence (Mrs. Raymond Snell)

Local newlyweds
live in Bayfield
St. Joseph's Church in Stratford was the setting on
August 22 for the marriage of John Dykstra of RR 1,
Bayfield, and Mary Elaine Brochu of Clinton.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rene Brochu
of Clinton and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Dykstra of RR 1, Bayfield. Rev. Hardy of London
and formerly of Clinton gave the vows and Seainus
Doherty of Clinton was the soloist.
Maid of honor was Doris Sanders of Brussels and the
attendants were Rosalie Reber of Ottawa, Marie Dykstra
of Bayfield, Diane Thompson of Toronto and Louise
Malott of London. The flower girl was April Bartliff of
Goderich.
Steve Flynn of Clinton was the best man, and the ushers
were Vincent Brochu of Clinton, .Jim and Tony Dykstra of
Bayfield, Frank Sanders of Brussels. The ringbearer was
Daren Janssen of Ingersoll.
Following a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall
in Stratford, the couple travelled td,Illorthern Ontario, and
will take up residence at RR 1, Bayfield.

ten grandchildren and five
great grandchildren; two sis-
ters, Euphemia (Mrs. Ralph
Cameron) Lucknow, Freda
(Mrs. Jim Reid) Goderich,
and two brothers, William
Rintoul (Whitechurch) and
Gordon Rintoul (White-
church).
She was predeceased by
one sister, Margaret (Mrs.
Harry Lee), and one brother,
John Rintoul.
Funeral service was held
at the MacKenzie and Mc-
Creath Funeral Home in
Lucknow on August 13 with
Rev. Wm. Munshaw of the
Lucknow Presbyterian
Church officiating. Interment
followed in Greenhill Cemet-
ery, Lucknow.
The - pallbearers were

Gaunt, Wm. G. Hunter, Bill
Lee, Doug Cameron, and
_John Rutherford.
The flower bearers includ-

Miss Clinton Fair, Judith Jewitt, a contestant in the Miss
C,N.E. "Queen of the Fairs Pageant" meets with Spring
Le Gard, Miss C.N.E. 1980, at the Canadian National
Exhibition in Toronto. The final judging for this year's
queen took place on Friday, August 21, with Miss Dresden
Fair winning.

plan Autumn Tea
The Huronview AIIlriliary
met in the board room on
August 17. Mrs. Leona
Lockhart opened the
meeting with all repeating
the Lord's Prayer.
The minutes of the last
meeting were read by the
secretary, Mrs. Jean Grif-
fiths and Mrs. Marion
Powell gave the financial
statement. The Maitland
Women's Institute will be in
charge of the September bir-
thday party.
The Autumn tea is going to
be on September 30 and any
contributions for the bake
table would be appreciated.
Mrs. Leona Lockhart is
making the tea tickets, and
the tickets for the draw. The
Blyth Women's Institute will
be in charge of the lunch for
the tea tables.
Mrs. E. Webster moved
that we adjourn and visit the
residents. The next meeting -
will be September 21.
Visitors always welcome.
Seaforth girls are
ready for Stampede
SEAFORTH - The plans
have been finalized and
Seaforth will be represented
at next year's Calgary
Stampede.
The Seaforth District High
School Girls Trumpet Band
will perform in the Stampede
parade and will hold mar-
ching drills during the week -
Wedding ups hydro use
The equivalent of one
million TV sets were switch-
ed on across Ontario in the
early hours of July 29 for the
Royal wedding, according to
Ontario Hydro figures. By 6
a.m. power demands were
about 300,000 kilowatts
above normal, almost
enough to supply the needs of
a city the size of London, On-
tario.
"We haven't seen an in-
crease like that since Tiny
Tim got married on the
Johnny Carson show," said a
Hydro spokesman.

test, originally,scheduled for
Blind Council has
transport problems
The Huron County Cana-
dian Council of the Blind
held its regular meeting in
the " Day Care 'Centre of
Huronview on Tuesday,
August 18. A fair number of
members attended along
with their guides and.
friends.
Following a pot luck sup-
per, a short business
meeting was held. A fele
garnes were enjoyed by all
before breaking up for the
evening.
There are a good number
of registered blind persons in
this county but, unfortunate-
ly, transportation problems
restrict a much larger atten-
dance.
AA members meet
for annual round -up
About 300 persons were in
attendance last Sunday at
the Central West District
round -up of Alcoholics
Anonymous IAA ), held in
central Huron Secondary
School in Clinton. - ' -
The sixth annual round -up
also had members of the Al
Anon group, which is
composed of friends and
family members of ex -
alcoholics, in attendance.

energy consumption
