Legion Building Fund grows
By John Scott
Blanche and Ed Deeves
left last week on vacation.
But, before they left, Blan-
che took time out to give me
an earful, of news that is..
After the last bus trip pro-
ved to be such a big success,
I knew it wouldn't be toolong
before we • had another. On
September 26th we head out
to visit Legion branches in
Forest, Strathroy, Mount
Brydges, Delaware and two
branches in Lambeth. The
list is on the Bulletin Board
and only the first 44 names
can go. If the bus if full,
Sherwood Bus Lines will
donate $88 to the Building
Fund, so let's make sure it's
filled.
A couple of weeks ago
Luelle Leppington
celebrated her 80th birthday.
Several members of our
Ladies Auxiliary took a sur-
prise luncheon to Luella's
home to help her celebrate.
President Annie Sallows pin-
ned a beautiful orchid cor-
sage on the birthday girl.
Luella is a life member and
is very deserving of this
recognition. To top off the
luncheon there was birthday ,
cake and ice cream tor

calories ladies.
Annie Sallows wishes to
thank everyone ,who donated
to the Flea Market. It was a
very successful venture,
raising over $500 for the
Building Fund.
Not only are the ladies
raising money for the new
extension, they are putting
on hard hats and going on to
the construction site. When
some work was being done in
the area of the new kitchen,
Annie Sallows and . Blanche
Deeves were there to drive
in a couple of nails and make
sure the men wiped their, feet
and washed their hands.
Another loyal member
celebrated a birthday
recently. On August 13th
John Deeves was 69 years
old. John puts most: of us
young guys to shame with
his efforts. Every day it
seems, John is out there
working on the addition.
Let's see if we can give him a
hand.
Everyone who has worked
out there would like to thank
the ladies for preparing hot'
meals and sandwiches for
them. What would we do
without them.

Blanche Deeves also told
me what she thinks of all the
golf that's reported in this
column. But, despite what
Blanche said, here is the golf
news. On Saturday eight
brave men left Clinton in tor •
-
rential rain to represent our
branch in Owen Sound at the
District Golf Tournament: I
am pleased to report that we
qualified to send one team to
the Provincial Tournament
in Chatham on September
12th. Unfortunately I was not
playing well enough to be in-
cluded.
Sorry Blanche, but I have
another couple of golf items
to mention. Sunset Golf
Club's Men's Invitational
Golf Tournament held
recently was won by one of
our members. Brian Reeve
shot a 70 but still had to go to
a playoff which he won on
the first extra hole. Con-
gratulations Brian,
Our fall golf tournament is
scheduled for September
13th. Details will be on the
sports board by this
weekend.
This week's cold nights re-
mind me that our winter ac-
tivities will be starting soon.
What a thought! So keep
watching this column for
details, I hope Blanche has
nothing against darts, crib -
