Donna Reid from St. Thomas is visiting her sister Lark Haskett and family for two weeks. Shirley, Patricia, Glenda, Denise, Carol and Heather Haskett from Iona Station near St. Thomas have been w down for a eek to visit Clair and Joe Haskett. Happy Birthday to Bonnie Pollock, this past week. I hear she got a great surprise and enjoyed it tremendously. Jim Thomas is glad to be home again after a couple days stay in Clinton Public Hospital. Paul and Marsha have a new brother David Michael McLean born on Sunday, August 16, 1981 at 1:00 A.M. in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. He weighed in at 8 lbs. 9 oz. to the proud parents Ken and Shirley McLean of Vanastra. Congratulations! Proud Grandparents are Don and Betty McLean of Vanastra and Dennis and Ann Nolan of Seaforth. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mcllveen and Norman visited Carol, Kevan, and Kennie Mcllveen on Tuesday this week. Church plans farewell service Ralph Schuurman con- ducted the service at the Vanastra Christian Church on Sunday, August 16th. This Sunday, August 23rd, Clarance Heida will conduct the service. It will begin on Thursday and Friday evenings with the finals to be held during the Fair on Saturday. Two trophies - an A and a B will be given. All competitors will receive a crest. Come cheer the boys on! Children make float The Tuckersmith Day Nursery is busy planning their float for the Lions Club Parade on Saturday, August 22nd. Parents please let them know if your child or children can ride on the float that day. The children have a hot full course meal at noon and a snack in the morning and a snack in the afternoon. Swim Team finishes third On August 8, some 17 swimmers from the Vanstra and District Swim Team competed with three other teams at Elmira. Vanastra finished three behind Fergus and Elmira. Seaforth was fourth. First place finishes by Vanastra were: Girls 11, 12 -100 metre medley relay - Michelle Butt, Julia Feltham, Sue Lehnen, Monique Aunger; Boys open 200 metre medley relay - Greg Schmidt, Joel Aunger, Jon Baker, Lovekesh Malik; Girls open 20 metre medley relay Chris MacDonald, Renee Lehnen, .Sherry Edwards, Seda Unsal; Girls open 100 metre backcrawl - Seda Unsa1; Boys open 50 metre Butterfly - Jon Baker, Boys open 200 metre free relay - Greg Schmidt, Lovekesh Malik, Joel Aunger, Jon Baker. Semi finals will be held on August 15th in Kincardine. Finals will be on August 29th in Guelph. Tykes ready for tourney On Tuesday, August 11th, the Vanastra Tyke Team won their first game against Stanley Township 23 - 20. A great game was played by all the children with Derek Dixon and Sandy Ryan both bringing in three runs each. On Thursday, August 13th the Tykes unfortunately lost to Goderich 4 - 20. The team still played a great game Hensall couple back from trip By Bertha MacGregor People Report Mr. and Mrs. Carl Payne returned from a delightful and entertaining trip to the Black Hills, the Bad Lands and the Canadian Rockies. The weather was most beautiful. About 30 Wright descen- dants attended the annual Wright picnic at the Kirkton- Woodham 12entre orrSunday, August 9. The 1982 reunion will be held August 8th at Kirk -ton. Lorne Ross is -presi- dent and Laurabelle Reichert is secretary. Mrs. Myrtle Kercher was the oldest person present and Hollie Reichert was the youngest. Mrs. Kercher had a birthday nearest the picnic date. Esther Wright came the farthest to attend and the longest married couple was Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ruston. The most recently married couple was Bob and Nancy Ross. Couple having a wed- ding anniversary nearest August 9 was Charlie and Myrtle Baillie. Lorne and Ethel Ross had the largest family present. Doris Jef- fery had the most letters in her name. Brent Rose had the shortest name. Spencer Jeffery wore the largest shoes and Norma Reichert the smallest. Brent Ross won the children's balloon race. Everyone enjoyed' the delicious dinner and visiting hour. Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobol visited last Thursday with the latter's brother Mr. An- thony Gelderland in Ridgetown. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chaffe and Sally of Mitchell were recent visitors with Mrs. Chaffe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett. Mr.k and Mrs. Roy Dolmage of Winthrop were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobol. Mrs. Ernie Davis attended the Annual Convention of the United Senior Citizens of On- tario held last week in Kingston as a representative of the Three Links Seniors of Hensall. Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobol were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John Kodynendyk at Woodstock. Worship services will resume in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sun- day, August 23 at 10:15 a.m. when Rev. Kenneth Knight returns from vacation. Visitors at Queensway Visitors with Mrs. Irma Wilds were Jack and Kay Cockwell and Dorothy Lee. Mrs. Emmerson Kyle visited with Mrs. Middleton. Van Shippers, John and Kathy visited with Mrs. Rozendal and her husband Don also visited her. Doug and Eva Triebner visited Mrs. Muriel Triebner. Mervyn and Irene Dunn visited with Louise Mitchell, Mary Westlake and Vera Lammie. Mrs. Pin- combe, 'Mrs. Pollen and Hazel Corbett visited with Louise Mitchell. Lavina and Mary Funnel visited Mrs. Kalbfleisch. United News Baptism was administered on Sunday morning at the United Church when Jason Everett Corbett, son of Wayne and Elaine Corbett and Kimberly Ann Taylor, daughter of Marvin and Cin- dy Taylor were presented for baptism. George Parker, grandfather of Kimberly Ann, represented the con- gregation at the baptism and presented the parents with their children to Rev. McDonald. Charles Cooper greeted the visitors and Brad Buchanan, Steven Cor- bett, Dave Kyle and Cecil Pepper were the Mrs. Marguerite McLeod was the soloist sir,ging Amazing Grace and Father of the Human Family during the baptismal service. Douglas Klopp was the organist. The whole service was based around the theme of baptism and Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of bap- tism. A number from this are at- tended the introduction ser- vice for Rev. Wilfred Fearn into the Hibbert United Church at Staffa on Thursday evening and also attended the reception following the service in the church hall. Rev. Season finals wind up on Saturday, August 22nd at the ball tournament in Stanley Township. Good luck kids! Lions and Lioness set for fair days The Vanastra and District Lions are having their an- nual fair this year on August 21st and 22nd. Lioness, don't forget the catering this weekend, August 15th Ball Tourna- ment. If you were wondering what all the cars were doing at the Rec. Centre last weekend it was because Clin- ton Bell Canada hosted a Slow -Pitch Tournament with teams coming from long distances. For those who missed it, it was a well organized event. They had 140 pounds of pig on a spit that looked ab- solutely delicious for their supper. Approaching quickly is the Vanstra and District Lioness Club's 2nd Anniversary and 50's Dance on Saturday, September 12, 1981 at the Vanastra Recreation Centre. Music will be by "By Special Appointment". Dancing 9:00 P.M. - 1:00 P.M., lunch provided. Proceeds to community projects. Tickets from members of the dub. This past weekend the Vanastra and District Lioness Club catered to a wedding at the Vanastra Recreation Centre. They served a dinner meal and a night buffet.
