homeowners witn Urea F'(,r-
maldehyde Foam Insulation
to be sent to the government
in Ottawa.
The petition in part states,
"As the owner of a home
with Urea Formaldeyde
Foam Insulation, I wish to
urge the government to
establish a proper approach
to remove the health
hazard."
Mr. Ostler said HUFFI
believes that health tests
should be conducted m all
homes with UFFI. He also
stated proper equipment
should be used.
In answer to a question,
Mr. Ostler said not all foam
insulation is Urea For-
maldehyde Foam Insulation.
He also said he has not heard
anything from companies
that install insulation.
Mr. Ostler said HUFFI is
going through the proper
channels to solve the pro-
blem. He added that
"squeaking wheels" get oil-
ed faster than a wheel that
makes no noise, to coin a
familiar phrase.
"I'm optimistic," said Mr.
Ostler.

• long distance
Telephone users in Auburn
have approved the elimina-
tion of long distance charges
on calls between Auburn and
Clinton and Auburn and
Goderich.
Peter Croome, local Bel
manager, said a survey con-
ducted by Bell Canada show-
ed more than 80 percent of
the customers in the Auburn
exchange were in favor of
adding Clinton and Goderich.
to their local listing.
As stated in the survey let-
ter, telephone rates in the
Auburn exchange will in-
crease when this Extended
Area Service is implemented
in the second quarter of 1984.
"The monthly charge for
telephone service is based on
the number • • of telephone
numbers that can be reached
without paying long distance
charges. Because the pro-
posed changes would in-
crease the number of
subscribers a caller could
reach, then the monthly rate
for service will increase',"
Croome said:
The survey was carried
out because new guidelines
for Extended Area Service
were approved by the Cana-
dian • Radio -Television 'and
Telecommunications Com-
mission in August, 1980.
These include, 51 percent
approval on the survey
results, a defined level of
long distance calling main-
tained between exchanges,
exchange rate centres no
more than 30 miles apart and
continuity.
