Guitarist
to be
in Bayfield
On August an at i p.m.,
music lovers will have a
unique opportunity to see
and hear one of Canada's
leading classical guitarists.
Ray Sealey will be per-
forming in Pioneer Park,
and it is 'hoped that many
from Bayfieldand round
about will take advantage of
the occasion.
His interests range . from
snip recitals to chamber
music,' concertos, conceits
With voice, special children's
performances and corn -
posing. It \,is interesting . to
note that -although bom in
England, Mr. Sealey is
bilingual and his' young
people's programmes are
offered in both French and
English. ,
His initial studies were at
the Royal Conservatory of
Music, and he subsequently
studied with Alice Artzt in
New York, and then with
Alexander Lagoya Tai France
following the receipt of a
grant from the Canada
Council for the Art& He has
performed in the United
States, Europe and
throughout Canada. His first
L.P. was made in 1978, and,
during the current year, a
recording of his own current
work. `Platero' is due for
release.
Across Canada the critics
have commented on his
warm gentle style and
commanding technique,
stressing the technical skill
which he combines with an
intensely personal approach
to his play ing.
Apart from his own con-
cert work. Mr. Sealey is
currently on the. Faculty of
Music at the University of
Western Ontario, in addition
to which he has published
several original works and is
the co-athor of `Classic.
Guitar for ,Young People'.
Pioneer Park, through the
good offices of Prof. and
Mrs. W. Thompson are
extremely fortunate in
acquiring this brilliant
young Canadian performer.
Admission , is free, but
donations for •the Park will
be welcomed, and those
attending are. advised to
come along with their own
chairs.
Members of the Pioneer
Park Association and those
interested in activities and
wishing to join should make
a note of the annual general
meeting which will be held in
the Park on Saturday
morning,- August 8th at 10
a.m. - or if wet, in the
Municipal Building.
Safety lane
checks autos
MITCHELL - A total of 219
vehicles have been taken off
the road in the Mitchell and
Setringville area.
Some 544 motorists were
given notice to go through
the safety lane which was set
up by the ministry of tran-
sportation and com-
munication, held in con-
junction with the
Sehringville OPP.
Held for the week of July
12, a total of 512 vehicles
showed up with 370 vehicles
inspected, 57 passed., 112
motorists volunteered to
turn over their licence plates
and 107 had their plates
removed.
Eight drivers were
charged with operating
unsafe vehicles and another
32 were charged for not
submitting their vehicles for
the safety lane inspection.
Federation
may fold
LUCKNOW - Only eight
members of a membership
of 180 turned out to the Ash-
field Federation of
Agriculture's annual
meeting on July 23.
President Clete Dalton and
vice president Grant Curran
voiced concern that the
township federation is in
danger of folding if members
do not show some renewed
interest. For the second year
in a row, the meeting was
unable to hold an election of
officers, because of a lack of
interest in the positions.
Last year some 30
members attended the an-
nual meeting, and interest
has steadily declined since
two years ago when a
capacity crowd attended the
yearly meeting to discuss the
topic of foreign ownership in
the township.
