(Shelley McPhee photo) In Holmes -vine .earns take'part in tourney By Blanche Deeves On July 13th the Bantam. boys defeated the, Stanley Township team and they play Auburn on July 29th at Holmesville. On July 14th the Squirt girls were defeated by Benmiller. They play against Clinton in Clinton on July 28th. On ,. July 15th the Squirt boys defeated Vanastra and the Midget boys won over Londesboro. The Squirt boys play Goderich I in Goderich Township on July 28 and the Midget boys play Stanley in Goderich Township on July 29. On July 16 the Pee Wee girls lost to Clinton 'A.' They play Clinton 'B' in Clinton tonight and play Stanley at the Varna diamond on July 33. The Porter's Hill slo-pitch team were sporting. their new sweaters but this didn't help them win against the aggressive Clinton Old- timers who still went on to defeat them. They play the Vanastra Lions in Holmesville tonight. The Holmesville slit -pitch team also went down to defeat to Londesboro and the' Holmesville slo-pitchers play Mark Kippen's Lon- desboro team on Friday night in Holmesville. In the Pee Wee Ball Tournament, held in Holtnesville over the weekend, Goderich Town- ship won' the 9 am game over Goderich. At the 10:45 am game Varna won over Hullett II. Goderich Township defeated Hullett I in the 12:30 pm game and Goderich Township downed Varna to win the "A" championship and medallions. Goderich I beat Hullett II in the 2:15 round and the 4 pen match went to Hullett I, who beat Goderich to win the "B" championship and medallions. In the Midget boys results, Winthrop defeated Ben - miller in the Friday night 7 pm round. The 9 pm game was rained out and in the 9 am game on Saturday morning Goderich Township Township issues permits Thirteen building permits were issued when Goderich Township Council met in regular session July6. Joe Zendiak received a permit to build a storage shed; K. Vanden Heuvel to demolish a barn; Alfred Weis to build a storage shed; Leslie Henwood to build a car port; Sally Bird to demolish a barn; Denis Wooley to build a summer cottage; 'Gysbert Van- derhaar to build ,a furnace room; Francis Cantelon to build a granary; Hans Dvinge to build a storage shed; Armand Favalaro to demolish a cottage and build a cottage; Tom Flynn to build a green house; and Evert Ridder to build an implement shed. General accounts totalling $61,201.25, including $31,000 for the road superintendent payroll, were ordered paid by council. Mr. Bondy and Chris Kiar were present at the meeting to discuss a proposed sub- division on part lot 33, 34, concession 1. Several suggestions made by council were accepted by Mr. Bondy and are to be incorporated into the said, agreement, after the township solicitor studies the agreement. The zoning by-law, as prepared by the Huron Planning Department, was accepted and drafted into by-law number 12. The manner of sending the $100 circulating fee and the manner of delivering the zoning by-law to the adjacent owners were left to the clerk. Lloyd Sowerby was present at the meeting to clear up the question of whom he was directly responsible to in the caretaking of the ball park. Council referred this matter to the recreation committee. Mr. Doucette was present to ascertain the possibility of getting his building permit for his house (lot 39, con- cession 9). This matter was left to the building inspector who is to determine when the barn is operational. The Goderich Hospital Board was represented at the meeting by Mr. Dempsey and Gerry Ginn who reported on the proposed building program at the hospital. Council deferred any action on the matter of a donation until their July 20 meeting. Council passed a motion to hire A. Makins to operate and oversee the water works system on Plan number 29 with a water rental fee of $59 per year being set for cot- tages using water from this system for the year 1961 and with the rate being set each year hereafter to be due on June 1 of every year. Any repter fr cl Plan 29 who wikhes X connect with the worwill be accepted at the same rate but such users must make their own con- nections across the road under the supervision of the road superintendent. Blyth downed Vanastra at 10:45 am and Benmr7ler defeated Hullett at 12:30. Winthrop welt onto beat Goderich • lbwnship at 2:15 pm and eliminated the team by a scare of 3-0 in an excellent no error.game. „ At 4 pen Benmiller and Vanastra played off for the "B" championship with Benmiller bringing the winners and taking the medallions 'for the "B" group. At 6 pm, the final game for the "A" championship, Blyth won over Winthrop tin the close scoring game W. take the championship and medallion for the "A" group. Art Bell would hire to thank all those who helped in running the booths. Special thanks also goes to the umpires who helped the games run smoothly. With special thanks going out to two ticketed Umpires Jim Harrison and John Bissett who handled the two championship games of the Midget boys. Also to the ones who raked, dragged and limed out diamonds between each game. Special thanks goes to Darrell Abbott for this help and support in helping to run this tournament and helping to make it an excellent success. People report Alvin and Barb Betties spent last weekend in Cayuga, visiting friends and Coyles, and the peanut plant near Simcoe. • Dabbie Perdue spent a few days with her. grandparents Clarence and Jean Perdue last week. The Recreation Centre in Holmesville has been busy Ttiesday and Thursday with shuffleboard. By popular demand another bus trip will go to Caledonia on August 9. Things were rolling at the Clinton Arena on Thursday evening, when more than 60 children and adults came out to skate for the Clinton Public Hospital.
