In Goderich Want beer tents banned GODERICH - More than 70 Goderich residents have voiced their opposition to beer ,.tents, festivals and other related events in that town. A petition is asking council to baii beer tents and any outdoor licenced area set aside for the purpose of consuming alcoholic" beverages especially in a residential area. The petition said the. ban was to include the Optimist Club's annual folk music festival in Harbor Park because it , created undue noise, unruly behavior, loud music, traffic congestion, and petitions claimed the music did not stop at specified times. Councillor Jim Searls supported the petitioners and explained, "It's getting tothe point where service clubs have to cane up with a way of raising money other than beer tents. Beers tents are nice and quick and make money but the Lions set a good example with their barbecue and breakfast. Councillor John Doherty pointed out that the petition didn't reflect the attitudes of all taxpayers in Goderich, "There are some 73 names 8n the petition and some are from out of town. There were over 3,000 people who paid to get into the festival and enjoyed it." Optimist Club member Bill Wedlock said the organization complied with all local regulations and doted, "We paid a baud $500 not to play because we ran into problems. A public meeting will be held to decide the future of the beer tents and the annual folk festival in Goderich. (to West Wawanosh Mutual Fire Insurance Company Dung®anon, Ont.
