At the Legion
Local musician makes debut
by Steve Cooke
The bus trip is the big news
around the Legion this week
and according to all the
reports, it was really a great
time. During the course of
the tour, it quickly became
pparent that we also had
some local talent on board.
Lloyd Butler is reported to
have provided some musical
entertainment in the form of
piano playing at several of
the branches. Fran Porter
also entertained the hosts at
Seaforth and Listowel with a
little story she tells quite
well Perhaps we can talk
Fran into giving a rendition
at our branch some evening.
These trips always seem to
bring surprises, and this one
was no exception. Everyone
was quite amazed to find out
that our John Scott is not on-
ly a soloist but an impres-
sionist as well. The quality of
this act, however, is still be-
ing discussed, and when
everybody's foggy mind
clears up, perhaps we will
get a true evaluation.
I should als6 mention at
this point that Blanche
Deeves was presented with a
history of the Palmerston
Branch 409 by their presi-
dent, Jim Clark. This is their
35th anniversary year, and
the bus trip just happened to
hit the celebrations. The
book is to be turned over to
the Ladies Auxiliary, but
Blanche wants to read it
first. Apparently a relative
of theirs was a president of
the branch somewhere in its
history.
Everyone would like to
thank the Listowel ladies for
an excellent supper as well
as the songs they sang for
our group. As I said, ap-
parently everyone had a
great time, and the 11 p.m.
return let everyone get to
bed in good time. All in all,
the bus trip netted about $83
which will be donated to the
building fund.
Tee-shirts, as previously
stated, are not available
from Steve Maguire. They
are at the bar if you ordered
one. Just drop in some even-
ing (soon) and Doris or Stan
will fix you up. With your
tee-shirt, you'll be properly
attired for the barbecue.
And . speaking of
barbecues, don't forget the
one that the associates are
planning for the 25th. The
past record has been great,
so let's have a good turnout
again this year.

in Goderich last Sunday. The
colour party was also
augmented by six members
(Blanche Deeves, Gladys
East George Yeats, Ivan
Hoggart, Steve Maguire and
Gord Tait) from our Branch.
The parade was part of the
celebrations for Canada
Week in which the Goderieh
Legion, along with members
and friends from Post 18,.
Bay City American Legion
(Goderich's sister city) also
participated. Joint efforts
such as this are good for the
organization and we hope to
see more of them in the
future.
We are also pleased to an-
nounce that comrades Slim
Lacroix and Joe Daer are
back home with us. It's good
to have you back and we look
forward to seeing you again
at the old water hole.
Just one last note in dos-
ing. The golf tournament for
this year is well underway
with some amazing results.
Last year's winner was
knocked out of the running
by Bill Cox in the fust game
of the season. I would hate to
