The president, Mrs. Lois Elliott, opened the meeting by reading an article on the observance of Senior • Citizen's week. The secretary, Mrs. Leona Lockhart, presented the monthly reports,and read the correspondence, The roll call was well responded to by the mem- bers who told what they would do in case of an emergency due to a mishap, in the honie, ora fire in the home. It was recommended that the phone number of one's doctor, and ,the fire ,department be - -readily available near the telephone; also that -one should always keep their fire insurance policy paid when the premium is duel Several members had attended the 80 anniversary of the Goderich Women's Institute, which was held in the McKay Centre for Seniors on June 24 with a banquet at noon followed by a most interesting program. Mrs. Anne . Kroesen . was thanked for the gift of an electric tea kettle tot* local branch A number of the members will attend the Grand Bend Summer Theatre m August to see the production, "The Music Man". The July meeting willtake the form of a picnic and a day to honour grandmother's and will commence with. a pique luncheon at 1 pm at the Ausable-Bayfield picnic area south. of Clinton.. Visitors will also be present from the Seaforth . and Londesboro Women's Institute branches. , The Clinton Women's Institute will assist the District of Huron West with the bursary fund of the Huron County Family and Children's Services. Mrs. Alice Lawson, con- vener of family and con- sumer affairs, was in charge of the program. The guest speaker Wallace Mon- tgomery, who was in- troduced by Mrs. Doris Batkin, is an official in- structor in the St. John's Ambulance Corps, as well as being -a geography teacher at Central Huron Secondary School. He successfully taught a St. John's Ambulance Course at night classes when graduating certificates were awarded for completion of phase one inthliswork- Mr. Montgomery spoke on "First Aid in the Home", saying that, "accidents just don't happen, they are caused". It is wise for grandmother s to child -proof their homes for their grandchildren. He illustrated the safety markings used on poisonous bottles, etc., by. using an overhead projector, also what to do in case of an emergency in the home, and tips on how to prevent ac- cidents. An interesting feature of his most informative talk was the instruction in making and applying a sling for a broken or sprained arm, or wrist, and members participated in practicing this helpful method of easing pain. Mr. Montgomery was thanked by Mrs. Lorna Radford on behalf of the W.I. members. A tasty lunch of strawberry shortcake was served at the close of the meeting.. Two Hensall. area men die Melvin,James Elliott Melvin . s F404,dind suddenly at his R.R.1. Zurich residence on June 24, 1981. He was the beloved husband of Margaret ' A. Lamont and is survived by a son -William„ West Bay, Manitoulin Island and daughter- Joan (Mrs. Evert, VanSlightenhorst) of R.R. 1 Zurich. Mr. Elliott was !predeceased by three ibrothers and two sisters and ;survived by five grand- 'Fhildren. Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Wilena Brown of Goshen United Church from the Westlake Funeral Chapel of Michael P. O'Connor, Zurich ton Friday, June 26. Inter- ment followed in the Bayfield Cemetery. OoelSeth Amaims ,Op 1 'Sethi" Amanns of Zurich` passed away at Alexandra and Marine General • Hospital in Goderich on Wednesday, June 25 in his 93rd year. He is the beloved husband of Rachel Gascho; father of., Seth Gibbons (Gibb), of Champanne, Illinois. Predeceased by two brothers and three sisters. Funeral service was held from the Westlake Chapel of Michael P. O'Connor Zurich on Saturday, June 27, thence to the Zurich Mennonite Church for service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Clayton Kuepfer officiating. Interment followed in . the Zurich Mennonite Cemetery. (James Fit-, zgerald photo) Huronview honors seniors The celebration of Father's Day was a fitting start to Senior Citizens Week at Huronview. The church service was held in the new auditorium to accommodate the Blyth Senior Choir under the direction of Mrs. Margaret Kai. Next Sunday will be Communion. There was much greeting of old friends and making of new friends, as each of the local ,clubs visited with us each day this past week. "The Three Links" from Hensall, and "Seaforth Hap- py Citizens" were greeted at the door by Mrs. Muriel Gib- son and Mrs. Grace Peck. They were entertained in the afternoon by' East Wawanosh Public School under the leadership of Mr. Chaulk. Meeting the guests on Tuesday was Mrs: Mabel Garrow. We had a full " auditorium for the pro- gressive euchre on Tuesday afternoon. Donna Tyndall won the prize for ladies' high, men's high was won by H. Parker. Men's low was won by Roy Maize, and ladies' low by Erma Ander- son. Donna Tyndall had the lucky chair and Rachel Johnston had the most lone, hands. Huronview had a very special treat on Tuesday evening when Jim Lawrie presented a program featur- ing the Country Companions, " Wayne McClinchey, Bill Marsh, and Jim .Lawrie fill- ing in for the drummer who was on vacation. The au- dience enjoyed the solos by Carol Caldwell who accom- panied herself on the guitar. Jim Lawrie entertained with several scottish selections and his good sense of humour was also enjoyed. Piper, Rick Elliott accom- panied by his brother Neil on the drums thrilled the au- dience. Mrs. Elizabeth Black thanked the entertainers for the excellent performance. Senior Friendship Club from Brussels, and Swinging Seniors from Blyth were greeted at the door by Frank Bissett, on Wednesday. Among the afternoon perfor- mance was Alf Sutton at the piano, May Godden and Ethel Sutton singing a duet. Blyth dancer Kim Craig, Violin Solo by Jim McCall, the second ---part of the pro- gram was put on by Huron - view and consisted of Steve Cook and Wendy Kloss sing- ing two duets, Joanne Verhoef accompanying herself on the guitar and singing a couple of folk songs'. Bob Hulley gave a reading and 'Frank Bissett played the piano. Good Companions, Bayfield Ever; Young Club, Golden Ager -s, and The Enterprising Seniors en- joyed entertainment by Mrs. Orville Storey and her dancers. The program was in the old auditorium and consisted of an opening , number by Nelson Howe, Hugh Norris and Dolly Mc- Quaid. Dance solos by Sheila Cook and Wendy Watson. Song by Scott Jewitt follow- ed by dance solos by Carol Anne McQuaid and Sherry Preszcator. We then had a violin selection by the Mc- Quaid family. Kathy Cooke did an Old Tyme step dance. Shannon Preszcator also danced. Lorri Jewitt sang a song followed by Madonna McQuaid's dance. Scott Jewitt sang again and all 4,4 Marie Flynn and her group of talented musicians had toes -a -tapping at Huronview on Friday afternoon. Huronview residents along hosted special guests the Huliett native dies ANNIE LEITCH Annie Leitch of Clinton passed away at the Seaforth Community Hospital on Sun- day, June 21 in her 90th year. She was born in Hullett Township on July 17, 1891, daughter of the late Edward and Kathryn Jarman. She was predeceased by her hus- band George Leitch in 1967. She is survived by her daughter, Elma `(Mrs. .:a Wilbert) Jewitt of Clinton, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. One sister, Mary Carter of Seaforth predeceased tier. She was a member of Londesboro "United Church, a life member of the Londesboro UCW and the Londesboro Women's In- stitute. The funeral service was held from the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home on Tuesday, Golden Age Club from Grand Bend and the Exeter Senior Citizens for the afternoon. (Shelley McPhee photo) June 23 with Rev. Marie Flynn, Hugh Flynn, Lorne Lawson, Wilson McCartney, Stan Hillen, Warren Whit- more entertained a full auditorium in the afternoon. The group opened the pro- gram by playing several selections, and Jennifer Tyn- dall and Merry Potter did some step dancing followed by the group playing again. Lisa Storey sang a couple of solos, and Lorne entertained the audience by playing his mouth organ to the tunes of Red River Valley and When You and i Were Young Mag- gie. Crystal Brennan and Crystal Mathers, Jennifer Burt stepped to Whalen's B. The fiddlers joined! Debbie Flynn while she danced to Black , Velvet' Waltz, Ken tucky Waltz kid Off She Goes, and Hugh Hodges sang Mansion On A Hill. Marie Flynn played a piano Solo, Lisa, sang A Daisy A Day, Dear. The four girls danced to the Whalen's. Hugh sang Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain and Debbie danced to Clog, Jig, and Reel. Ontario St. ITC W meet The June meeting of the Ontario Street Evening Unit was held at the home of Doreen Pick. Marianne Colclough led the devotions in Isabel Col - son's absence. Phyllis Tyn- dall read the treasurers report seconded by Edna Cox, and Marion Powell lead a discussion on the church picnic for another year - yes Ines in Holland Anna Gelling Anna Gelling, wife of John Gelling, died 'on June 23,1981 in Onstwedde, Holland. She was in herfi8th year. Mrs. Gelling is survived by her husband John, her son Hank and daughter-in-law Beryl of Clinton. An anniversary jumble contest was won by Marlene Forbes. The prize was a nice ceramic dish made by Isabel Colson. An amusing skit was presented by Nina Inkley, Nancy Turner, Willa Taylor, Helen Trewartha, Lois Elliott, Beatrice Welsh and Edna Wheeler. This is a talented group and the ladies enjoyed it very much. A tasty lunch was served by the ladies on Betty Stanley's group, and Edna Wheeler thanked the hostess Doreen Pick for her kind hospitality.
