Colts jake three wins
On Wednesday June 24th,
Flemings Colts played a
doubleheader against Arva,
wizmine the first game 4-3
and losing the second 7-6.
In the opening game,
Casey Wildgen pitched the
first three innings, allowing
three unearned runs before a
leg injury pulled him out.
Don MacDonald pitched the
next four inning, allowing
only three hits for the win..
MacDonald also -bad two
singles and Butch Fleet had
a double and single to drive
in the winning run.
In the second game Mac-
Donald
ao-Donald again went to the
mound but a let down in
defence left him there for on-
ly two innings. Arva scored
five unearned runs against
Don to go on to a 7-5 win.
Mike Wildgen came in to
allow only one nm the rest of
the way on two hits.
Hans Leppington drove in
two runs with a. pair of
singles and Wildgen helped
his cause also with two
singles.
On Friday, the Colts
travelled to Thorndale and
completely dominated the
Angels, pounding out 20 hits
to score 16 runs to Thorn -
dale's four. Fremliti, Burns,
Leppington and Cam Mac-
Donald
ao-Donald each hit home runs in
this game making it seven
homers in two games
against the Angels. Mac-
Donald's
ao-Donald's home run was only
his second at bat this year.
Other hits gathered Fleet
with four, D. MacDonald,
Colquhoun and Hart. Don

innings. Don MacDonald got
the win, allowing six hits
while striking trout six and
giving up two unearned runs.
Everyone in the Colt lineup
got at least one hit with three
hits each going to Hart, Col-
quhoun and MacDonald
This Thursday, the boys
are off to Kincardine for a 8
a.m. game, but Friday's
game against Dashwood has
been cancelled to allow the
Colts to travel to Sarnia for a
tournament this weekend.
The next home game will
be July 8 at 8 p.ro. when
Dashwood conies to town for
the first time this year.
Dashwood is currently in
first place and this should
prove to be a good game.
Ideal Wilco was all alone at the wire last Sunday at the
Clinton Kinsmen Raceway in a division of the Ontario
Sired Stakes for two-year-old pacers. Ideal, with Norm

Ideal Wilco proved to be a
real crowd pleases for the
1,409 harness racing fans
that turned out to watch him
win his sixth straight
lifetime victory at Clinton
Kinsmen . Raceway on Sun-
day afternoon.
Starting from the outside
sixth position, in the first
division of the Ontario Sires
Stakes for two-year-old colt
and gelding pacers, the
striking roan son of Smog -
True Ideal by High Ideal was
on the outside until past the
half -mile mark and still
finished nearly three lengths
ahead of his six competitors
at the wire.
Time for the mile was :30.3
-1:01.1-1:32.2-2:03.1, a new
track record for two-year-
old pacers at Clinton. Norm
McKnight Jr. drove Ideal
Wilco for trainer Jean Poulin
and owner Doug Courtney's
Wheeling By Stables of
Grand Bend.
From six starts, Ideal
Wilco already has earnings
of $26,485 and a 1:58.2 pacing
record. The Wilson Farms of
Granton were the breeders
of this outstanding pacer. -
James Dechellis was se-
cond with the Zip Tar colt G.
Whiz Wally for owner Wally
Toews of Willowdale, while a
Springfield colt Disco Time,
also from the Poulin Stable
finished .third with Jerry
Duford on the bike for part-
ners . Dr. S. Stewart, R. G.
Boyce and the Wheeling By
Stables.
Callwood Clipper, by Hor-
ton Hanover ' - Merrywood
Susie, was fourth for his pre-
sent owner Paul Daeres of
St. John, New Brunswick,
who purchased him at the
1980 CSHS yearling sale in
Toronto from breeders
Stewart • McCall Ltd. of
Walton, Wilfred Spicer,
Delhi and Derwood Spicer of
Otterville. Callwood Clipper
already has a 2:06.3 pacing
record this year,
Thesecond division went
to Springwood, a son of Spr-
ingfield, also from trainer
Jean Poulin's Stable, dined
in 2:04.1, a, new record for
this pacer whose previous
best was 2:05.3 at London.
This was the fourth win;
from five starts for Spr-
l2 teams play
in ball tourney
On June 19, 20 and 21, the
Clinton Men's Recreational
Fastball League held a tour-
nament at the Clinton Park.
Teams involved were
Seaforth Queens, Seaforth.
Travellers, Zurich DJs,
Dominion Tavern, Hensall
Legionaires, Exeter La
Pines along with Clinton
teams - Merners, Blue -
Birds, Elm Haven, Goderich
Township, Teachers and
Lobb's Caseys.
Unfortunately all 'of the
Clinton teams were defeated
in the first round and had to
playoff for the B trophy.
On Sunday afternoon,
semi-final games were
played to determine who
would play for the trophies.
The B , championship was

On Friday, June 26, Clin-
ton hostessed Crediton and
came up with a37-5 win.
Two grand siam home
runs were scored by Peter
Clynick, and a single homer
was clubbed by • Travis
Lynden, with a triple hit by
Dale Nott. -
Singles were hit by Travis
Lynden, Kevin Turner,
Byron Boyes, Jeff Turner,
Peter Clynick, John Scruton,
Steve Taylor, Shawn
Gautreau, Ronny Ladd,
Mike Hallam, Terry Cox,
and Jason Bennett.

ship game was played
between the Zurich DJs and
Dominion Tavern. The final
score was Dominion Tavern
4-DJs1.
The most valuable player
for the second year in a row
Was the pitcher No. ,1 Ace
Brian Hodgins for Dominion
Tavern. Each member of
Dominion Tavern received
individual trophies along
with the ,.A championship
trophy.
All of the games were ex-
citing with excellent pitching
and hitting from all of the
teams.
The winner of the bushel of
bats was won by Greg Pfaff
of Exeter.

Ray J. Cummingham of New
Lowell was second with his
Kings Kourier, by the Good
Time sire Sterling Kingtime,
while the undefeated Smog

Walkerton and driven -.by
trainer Bud Fritz, had to set-
tle for third. Already spor-
ting a 1:59.2 record this year,
Daylon Thunder, who drew
the trailing seventh position,
encountered traffic pro-
blems every time he tried to
move.

Purse money for the two
divisions of the O.S.S. totall-
ed $19,404.
Several new pacers that
qualified on June 21 at the
local track niade their first
lifetime ':start on Sunday
afternoon.

Evan Wardell of Strathroy in
the fust race, while Jack

Direct pacer, Charlie Wind-
' sor, for Allan, Ken and
Charles Shelton of Goderich.
Ron Williamson of Seaforth
took fourth with Manoticks
Victory for Emerson Wallis
of Granton.
Speedy Clip, a four-year-
old gelding by Fast Clip -
Ada Guin by Adios Paul,
owned by Art Maskell of
Goderich, easily won the
fourth, pacing to a 2:10.1
record in his first lifetime
start with Don Larkin on the
bike for trainer Ron Swartz.
Pleasant Rodger, a half-
brother to Speedy Clip, also
started his racing career last
year at Clinton for the same
owner before being sold.
From 17 starts in 1980, Plea-
sant Rodger had seven wins,
two seconds and five thirds
for earnings of $4,187 and a
2:05 pacing record. On April
26, he took a new lifetime
mark of 2:00.2 at Windsor
Raceway.
Donnas Best, a six-year-
old mare by FashiOn Tip -
Donna Wick, found the com-
petition easier here than at
Windsor where she had been

12 -year-old mare by Adios

first start of the year for
owner -trainer James D.
Taylor of Hensall in the six-
th.
Ray McLean drove Cana-
dian Speed to victory in the
tenth for owner Don Beatson
of Granton, while Grant
Volland was second with Lit-
tle Arnie for Murray
Hodgson of Lucan. Prince
Bye Bye, a four-year-old
