It's a disease most newspapermen suffer from during their careers, called "lack of newsitis". There were no tidbits of information behind the bar and the big blackboard was empty, so this week's col- umn will only be twice as long as Steve's best effort so far. You will recall from previous columns, if you are a regular reader, that Rachael Bettye. represen- ting our branch in a poetry contest, had come in first in provincial competition. Her entry was forwarded to Smile Little boy to mother: "May I go to Timmy's house and play with his toys? Mine are all educational." + + + Hold a ballpoint pen against a lit electric bulb. A few seconds of heat will start the ink flowing. Don and Audrey Middleton are having an OPEN HOUSE SATURDAY, JUNE 27 2-5 PM and 7:30-10 PM on the occasion of the approaching marriage of their daughter Cindy to Steve Taylor of Brucefield. Neighbours, friends and relatives are most cordially invited to attend. Dominion level, that's Canadawide, and Rachael's entry placed second. That is quite an achievement and our branch is very, very pro- ud of her. Monday night's member- ship meeting saw three new members initiated into the branch. They are Gord Phillips, Graham Bowker and Bob 'Johnston and we take this opportunity to welcome them. Don't forget June 27. That is the date of the Ladies Aux- iliary mystery bus tour to ,Seaforth, Palmerston, Listowel, Brussels, Blyth and Goderich. As you can see, the mystery is not where the ladies are taking us, but how they are going to bring us back after all those stopovers. The bus leaves from the Legion parking lot at 11:45 a.m., and one seat has been held in reserve for a volunteer piper, who I am sure will be paid in the true Scottish tradition, so if there is a piper out there who thinks he could handle it, please .. contact Annie Sallows. The list for the two ball foursome to be held at Bayfield on July 19th is fill- ing up rapidly, so if you wish to participate you had better get your name up on the list quickly. The list is on the sports board. If you didn't order one but decided you couldn't do without one after seeing John Deeves model- ing his on Monday night, an extra, limited supply was ordered. A bargain for only $5 plus tax. In my last column I closed with a little humour from Rosemary Armstrong and the response was so over- whelming (at least nobody complained), that I thought I would try to do even better this time. I asked the eight- year-old son of a friend of mine to top Rosemary's story. He had no problem in doing so and here it is: Q: What goes ha, ha, ha, thump? A: A man laughing his head off. Fora.
