The Huron County Unit of
the Canadian Cancer Society
learned that it had surpassed
it,s objective for the 1981
fund-raising campaign when
a general meeting was held
in Exeter on June 3.
Chairman Ross McDaniel
reported that the Wingham
and Exeter Branches had
both gone over their in-
dividual objectives with
Clinton and Goderich
Branches expected to follow
shortly. Seaforth Branch will
be very close to its objective
after its walk-a-thon funds
come in.
Treasurer Steve Biskup's
report revealed a total of
$85,036.20 raised as of June 2
with $15,673.08 expenses as of
April 30.
Freda Slade reported for
the education committee. -
She stated that the Clinton,
Seaforth, Wingham and
Goderich Branches had
visited the local high schools
with new material. Supplies
were also taken to
elementary schools. New
pamphlets were put in the
offices of local dentists and
doctors as well as at
hospitals, libraries, some
business offices and the
Huroview Day Care Centre.
She reported that the
Clinton education committee
had showed the film, "We
Can Help" to the United and
Anglican Church women and
left pamphlets with them.
It ' was also reported that
Goderich Branch had
arranged for a bus load of 35
women to go to Toronto at
the end of the month for the
National Breast Screening
study at Mount Sinai
Hospital.
Helen Davies reported that
there are still vacant
positions on the P.D.&N.
committee which must be
filled soon.
Howard Aitken, reporting
on publicity, praised Joanne
Buchanan of the Goderich
Signal -Star for - her
assistance to him on this
year's editionof °Hope'. He.
said Toronto had again
requested 100 copies to send
out at division level to en-
courage other areas to un-
dertake this kind of
education. And pictures
from the edition have been
sent to John McKay for
printing in the Southwest
News.
Jan Sloane was also
praised for her efforts at
(KNX TV and radio.
Marg Allan reported that
14 patients are benefitting
from the Unit's tran-
sportation and medical
services.
District Director, Bob
Montgomery spoke to the
meeting about his recent
bout with cancer and in-
dicated that he intends to
fight this disease and win. He
also spoke about the recent
P.D.&N. conference in
Orillia and said information
on this conference would
soon be sent out to members
of the unit.
He reminded members of
the mini -conference on
Saturday, September 12 at
the University of Western
Ontario and urged everyone
to attend. Don Kennedy was
asked to spearhead bus
arrangements for the con-
ference.

The week-long celebration
gets underway on Sunday,
June 21 at 9:30 am with a
special church service in the
new auditorium, with Rev.
Wittick officiating.
On Monday, June 22 at
12:45 pm the Hensall Three
Links senior citizens club
will be providing special
entertainment and the
Seaforth Happy Citizens will
hold a 5:45 pm program. At
1:30 pm, the East Wawanosh
Public School will ' be
providing entertainment in
the new auditorium.
The Clinton Golden Radars
will have the 12:45 pm
Tuesday, June 23 program
and the Goderich Golden
Gates and the Clinton
Christian Reformed Reach
Out will be in charge at 5:45
pm.
Tuesday afternoon at 2
pm, progressive euchre will
be featured in the new
auditorium and at 7 pm
Wayne McClinchey and Jim
Lawrie from Blyth will be
entertaining in the new
auditorium.
From Brussels, the Senior
Friendship Club will be at
Huronvlew at 12:45 pm on
Wednesday, June 24 along
with the Swinging Seniors
from Blyth. The Swinging
Seniors will also help to
provide entertainment at 2
pm in the auditorium.
On Thursday, June 25 the
Good Companions from
Dashwood and the Bayfield
Ever Young Club will visit
Huronview at 2:45 pm. The
Golden Agers from Zurich
along with the Hohnesville
Enterprising Seniors will be
on hand at 5:45 pm. Mrs.
Orville Storey and , her
dancers will be providing
special.entertainment in the
old auditorium at 2 pm.
Friday, June 26 will see
and hear a toe -tapping
performance as Marie Flynn
and her group put on a
special musical show in the
new auditorium at 2 pm. At
5:45 pm the Golden Age Club
from Grand Bend and the
Exeter Senior Citizen's Club
will provide the en-
tertainment.

a skit entitled "Tell Me Doc-
tor" 'by members of the
Evening Unit, and directed
by Miss Olive Johnson, Clin-
ton. The characters Were:

Even though the skit was
quite humorous it had a wor-
thwhile message for all. To
close the evening a delicious
lunch was served , by
members of the Coffee
Mates.
David John Reid
A former Clinton resident,
David John Reid of 241
Western Crescent,
Saskatoon died on June 8 in
Saskatoon University
Hospital. He was in his 47th
year.
Mr. Reid is survived by his
wife Verna (Eyre) Reid and
children Mrs. David (San-
dra-) Anderson of'Seisltaaoon
as well as Bradley, Karen
and Kevin, all at home. Mr.
Reid is also survived by a
sister Betty of Toronto and a
brotherJim of Owen Sound.
Funeral services were
held on June 10 from the
chapel at the McKague
Funeral Home in Saskatoon.
Mr. Reid was a firefighter
with the DND at Dundurn
Military Base and six fellow
firefighters were
pallbearers. Interment
followed in the Hillcrest
Memorial Gardens in
Saskatoon.

Concerning the annual
meeting coming up on
October 6, Mr.MVlontgornery
said that Dr. Boris Regula
had agreed to be the guest
speaker and will inform
members about the Colo -
Rectal test he has helped to
devise. It was suggested that
local physicians be invited to
the meeting to learn about
this new teat.
Exeter treasurer Joyce
Black then introduced Julie
Easterbrook on piano and
Marilyn Jonston who sang
several numbers which were
well-received.
Next, branch presidents
each gave their reports.
Helen Davies reported that
Clinton Branch still needs a
president and com-
memoration chairman to
complete its new slate of
officers.
Ina Scoilu reported that
the Seaforth Branch held a
meeting in May at which
their slate of officers was
completed.
Norm Whiting of Exeter
congratualted and thanked
his branch for their work in
being the first to pass their
campaign objective.
Goderich president Mel
Farnsworth reported that
Angus MacLennan has
agreed to be their new vice-
president.
Don Kennedy of the
Wingham Branch reported
that the movie `Tribute'
netted around $50 for their
ht eai:ixtc
branch campaign and got the
Society some publicity as the
theatre owner donated $1 for
each adult ticket purchased
on May 27 or 28. He also
Suggested that the Unit try to
find a permanent meeting
place in Clinton to make
travelling easier for the
other branches.
A discussion ensued in
which Ross McDaniel
stressed the importance of
branch attendance , at the
unit meetings and expressed
his pleasure at the large
turnout at this meeting. He
called for opinions from the
branch presidents about a
permanentmeeting place,
asking them to question their
branch members and notify
the unit office on their
feelings.
The unit secretary read a
thankyou letter from Olive
Knisley for a gift sent to her
husband and it wasarranged
to send another gift to him. A
letter was also read from the
division notifying members
that a Terry Fox Day will be
held Sunday, September 13
with more details to be given
later.
Seaforth president Ina
Scoins reported that Mrs.
Miller had agreed to cater to
the nit's annual meeting
which will be held at the
Goderich Township Hall in
Holnlesville. The Clinton and
Goderich Branches have
been appointed to handle the
decorations with Seaforth to
decide on the menu.
Tickets will be obtained by
the unit office with Elaine
Blair of Clinton, Joyce Black
of Exeter, Marj Brown of
Goderich, Marg McCowan of
Seaforth and Don Kennedy of
Wingham to arrange for
their distribution. The Chiefs
of Staff of the local hospitals
and the branch medical
advisors are to be contacted
to invite all local doctors to
the meeting since the guest
speaker's talk will be of
special interest to them.
Invitations will also be sent
to the district executive as
well as the ` executives of
other district units.
The branches were asked.
to submit to the unit office
the names of any of their
members who they feel
merit an award of
