Varna this week By Mary Chessell Miss Cheryl Reid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reid, Wallaceburg, recently graduated from the University of Waterloo, receiving an Honours Degree with a double major in Man -Environment and Recreation. She is presently employed by the city of Calgary. Cheryl's brother, Jim, a recent graduate of Sir Sanford Fleming College in Lindsay, left on Monday for Wallacton Lake in northern Saskatchewan to work for Asamera Inc.as a Geological Technician. Their grandmothers are Mrs. George Reid, Bayfield and Mrs. Henry Schilbe, Zurich. The pipe Band of Varna took part in the parade at Hensall Spring Fair last Tuesday with a 16 -piece pipe band. They also played at Webster reunion in Brucefie Id school last Sunday, June 14. Brucefield news Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cantelon, R.11.1, Brucefield on triplet sons born last Tuesday, June 9th. Mrs. Don (Betty) Lee of Duchess Alkeita spent the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seldon Ross. Mrs. Ross Scott, who was a patient in University Hospital, London, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McGregor, Woodstock, spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Gregor McGregor. Mr. Jack Gilmour, Toron- to, visited over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. S. Ross. The decoration service under the direction of the IOOF and Rebekahs the IAL and the legion was held at Bairds cemetery Sunday afternoon with John Broad - foot as master of ceremonies. After the reading of the honour roll, Rev. M.R. Mullen conducted the ser- vice assisted by Rev. Miss Brown of Varna, who gave the address. The cemetery was decorated with many flowers. Mrs. Pearl Eyre has returned from attending the funeral of her son-in-law Mr. David Reid of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Tuckersmith Unit 1 of the Brucefield UCW met Mon- day evening, June 8, when Mrs. Hazel McNaughton and Mrs. Ann Broadfoot led. Devotions. Mrs. McNaughton read "The Natures Creed", and P4rs. Broadfoot took as her topic "Agriculture in Palestine". Mrs. Hazel McCartney chaired the business and was glad to see so many out, this being the last meeting until Fall. She thanked the Devo- tion leaders, and Mrs. Beatrice Stoll read the minutes Mrs. Berry gave the treasurer's report, and then Mrs. Violet Ross reported on cards and flowers, noting thanks was expressed on behalf of Mrs. Alice Scott and Mrs. Elsie Henderson, both ill in hospital. A letter of thanks was read from Clin- ton Hospital for the donation they had received Members are reminded the project for July and August will be a donation of $1.00 for each month, while the next meeting will be September 14 at 8 p.m. with an auction at the meeting as project.
