Since next week has been
declared a salute to. Senior
Citizens we join in that
salutation. The title "Senior
Citizens" is relatively new -
belonging to the last decade
or two. This infirm, as long as
the word "senior" holds the
same respect that is ac-
corded to the top ranks in
any organization. Don't ever
let it be used to single out a
group of the white and grey
haired, sitting on the fringes
of society and no longer a
,. part thereof. The sum total
of their experience in life is
great and if their advice
were sought after it would
often be worth the seeking.
The great actress, Marie
Dressler, put ft well when
she said, "It's not how old
you are but how you are
And this one from Gloria
Swanson, "I think all this
talk about age is foolish.
Every time I'm one year
oder, everyone else istoo."

And to any age group we
dedicate the following
anonymous poem:
HOW OLD ARE YOU?
Age is a quality of mind.
If you have left your dreams
behind,
If hope is lost,
If you no longer look ahead,
If your ambitions' fires are
dead
Then you are old
But if from life you take the
best,
And if in life you keep the
jest,
If love you hold -
Not matter how the years go
to matter how the tkiithdays
flys
You are not old.
Sunburnt City?
Do you remember that horrible hot feeling of bright red
skin from last summer? Remember how even theg heets
hurt your arms and legs? Do you want to have thatsame
feeling again this summer? NO WAY! But what can you
do
Some people get freckles, and some people don't. Some
people tan, and some people don't. Everybody's skin is
different, but ° almost everyone burns. When summer
trots along, people love being outside. Remember how
much that hot scratchy sunburn hurt?? Do you want that
feeling again?
The easiest way to prevent a sunburnis to stay inside.
It is also the most boring way. Who wants to stay inside
on a beautiful day? Not you, that's for sure. But, did you
know that the sun's rays are the most harmful between 10
and two? That leaves lots of left over hours to play
outside. You don't want to stay inside?
The next easiest way to prevent a sunburn is to cover
yourself up. This can be a drag — some summer days are
so hot that even the lightest shirt feels like a fur coat.
Bathing suits and shorts are by far the coolest things to
wear, but they also expose a lot of skin. What can you
do?
There are sunscreens that work pretty well, available
in drug stores. "Paha" is perhaps the best sunscreen
ingredient found in tanning lotions — look for it on
labels.
Did you know you can get a sunburn underwater? Yes,
you can! On top of that, wet skin actually attracts the
rays that burn. Clouds and trees offer no protection either
— those sneaky rays can find a way to your skin.
Take care this summer; cover up, wear a sunscreen,
and stay inside during the hot hours of the day.
Remember that hot, itchy feeling of a sunburn???? Ugh.
Who needs it!
