.A cardiovascular survey carried out in a
Huron County high school shows 50 out of
fifty students drink alcohol twice a week or
more often, two of the students take drugs
and 75 percent of the group smoked
cigarettes.
The survey was conducted by the Huron
County Public Health Unit under former
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Brian Lyn-
ch. Acting MOH Dr. Harry Cieslar
reported to Huron County Council on May
28 that the survey was designed to learn
the direction public health should be tak-
ing with programs for county adolescents.
"Public health has done a good job in
areas where they are active such as con-
trolling food, sewage disposal, immuniza-
tion and the newborn," said Cieslar. "The
surrey points out the youth are a neglected
ares" he added.
Cieslar told county councillors there will
likely be all kinds of funding for senior
tizens programs because the Ministry of
alth recognizes the increase in the pro-
vince's aging population. But Cieslar said
he wonders if there will be funding for
youth programs, which is also a priority.
The greatest killer of adolescents said
Cieslar, are accidents and suicides. He in-
dicated public health needs to help
adolescents deal with their problems. He
said the Huron Public Health Unit is
already involved as a resource for
teachers in setting up programs in the high
schools as well as providing films on
related topics.

health, told council the members of the

stuck in
the middle
There are a thousand thoughts
running through my head this week. It's
"I'm going over the edge this time,"
with too many things to do, and just not
enough time to accomplish them all. In
fact when I'm in such a tizzy as this,
almost nothing gets done. My brain's
whirling too fast, there are too many
chores and jobs only hall completed,
and I just keep running in circles.
Hi everyone! . Welcome to another
week's worth of delirious, whirl -wind,
going -nowhere -fast happenings from
the `Stuck In the Middle' kid.
I may be losing control very soon and
would appreciate any kind offers,
suggestions or opinions from you out
There's no- one particular place
where I should begin, so let's look at the
job here first. In less than 10 words - It's.
hard, and I'm not having any fun. The
pressure's on urging us to put out a
better product, have our deadlines
pushed ahead and there are just too
many things happening in the Clinton
area that need coverage. That
honeymoon in October seers light
years away, but I see a dim opening at
the end of the tunnel and after the
school graduation ceremonies are over,
we may get a break in the newsroom.
The home front's a complete disaster
area. Laundry hasn't been touched in
three weeks; Fve nm out of clean
glasses and forks; and boxes are
starting to pile up around my ears in
preparation for the big move to a new
residence.
Moving, gawd I haven't done that in
four years and I seem to have ac-
cumulated more than my share of stuff.
Sorting out the good from the bad stuff
\is not easy and a recent closet inventory
board were distressed by the report. He
said it is disturbing when you learn that 100
percent of the students surveyed drink
alcohol and 75 percent are sinking
rettes. It may seem humorous at first
said Steckle, but when you consider the im-
plications it is serious.
"We are very disapproving of the report
and I feel all adults and parents should be
setting an example," he observed.
New Auburn
works garage
is opened at last
The new Huron County works garage at
Auburn was officially opened Thursday,
May 28 by Robert Eaton, Middlesex MPP,
and parliamentary assistant to the
Minister of Transportation and Com-
munications.
Huron County warden Fred Haberer, J.
D. Durnin, reeve of West Wawanosh, and
Murray Elston, MPP, Huron -Bruce were
also in attendance.
Lloyd Mousseau, chairman of the Huron
road committee, acted as master of
ceremonies and the county road engineer,
Bob Dempsey addressed the gathering.
The new garage was built at a cost of
$700,000 and the keys to the new facility
were handed over to warden Haberer by
Casey Dendekker of Mauer Construction.
Following an open house of the facilities
a private reception was held at the Ben -
miller Inn.

only cleared out two blouses, one that
was ripped and ane that I wore in public
school. The rest of the stuff I figure I
just may wear again someday.
The move also means re -decorating,
so I'll have to find time to wield a paint
brush, pick out wallpaper, buy cur-
tains, ransack the parents' garage for
more furniture and start refinishing the
old chairs that I've salvaged from yard
sales.
Most importantly, moving seems
sweet talking all my friends to lug
boxes and furniture, convince my dad
that I really need his pick-up truck and
promise on my life that I. won't scratch
the box. .
And:speaking of dad, there's Father's
Day coming up, my birthday, the
parents' 30th wedding anniversary, a
house warming party for another
friend, another birthday, a vacationing
friend from Scotland, fushias to re -pot,
weekly calls on the new mommas and
their wee babes and a half -completed
baby gift that will now have to wait
until Christmas to be delivered.
Sometime between now, and last
week, there's this wedding to get ready .
for. That means dieting and exercising,
which I don't have time for, to get into a
size 7 dress - here's hoping. It means
trying to get mum and I together to pick.
out the dress. It means waiting for fall
materials for the bridesmaid's gowns
and 'all the assorted scheming, dealing,
preparing and planning that goes with
it.
Now Fm not going to panic about all
this. Things will get better, they can't
get any worse. But in the meantime I
think I'll go lie down, I have a headache
and all this thinking has just plain worn
me out!

«me system used for ranking en-
vironmental factors was provided to On-
tario Hydro by citizens' working commit-
tees," Macaulay said. "(They) reflect the
dialogue between us and the agricultural
community which has taken place over
several years."
The documents will be distributed to
municipalities, utilities and public interest
groups as part of what Macaulay termed
the first "plan stage" of a two-part process
to secure government approval
' "After the plan stage approval is obtain-
ed, Hydro will again invite the public to
participate" in route studies before a deci-
sion is made.
The process is expected to take three to
four years, followed by two years of con-
struction. Officials hope the new line will
be ready by1:a
With only one 500,000 volt line out of
Bruce now, Hydro is concerned about its
ability to deliver the combined power of
Bruce A and B generating stations.
The third and fourth generating units in
Bruce B are expected to be on-line in 1967.
Meanwhile, the steadily growing demand
for power in Southwestern Ontario has
raised the possibility of power shortages.
Asked about that, Hydro officials said
there are contingency plans to handle
power breaks should a natural disaster
such as a tornado knock out the single ex-
isting line.
Robert Murrayl acting director of the
route and site selection division of Ontario
Hydro's Toronto headquarters, said some
plans call for twin -tower lines, others for
single towers with two circuits.
He said twin -tower 500,000 volt lines
generally require a 130-metre'right-of way
while the single towers with 230,000 volt
circuits need a 69 -metre right -of way.
Towers about 52 metres high are spaced
from 245 to 300 metres apart. "Every ef-
fort
ffort is made to minimize environmental
impact," he said.

set
While final tallies are not completed,
,Mr. Dalzell is optimistic that the fair was a
success and will continue to be so in years
`to come. He noted that the deficit is
steadily being cut and hopes that next
year's fair will at least put the board back
on even keel.
While the future of the fair may now be
more hopeful than it was before this year's
event took place, its success is not a sure
thing without the public support and Mr.
Dalzell stressed, "We need more members
on the board to make the fair worthwhile
and profitable."
