• Holmesville news By Blanche Deeves The Goderich Township Enterprising Seniors met on May 21 in the Holmesville Community Centre. Everett Mcllwain chaired the meeting and Mrs. Cudmore read the minutes of the last meeting. Fran Powell gave the treasurer's report and the sick and card report was presented by Mrs. Deeves. After the roll call .was. taken, the correspondence was read by. Mrs. Cudmore, with an invitation to visit Huronview during Senior Citizens' Week from June 21 to 26. Mr. Mcllwain gave a reading and the meeting was closed. Jack Smith and John Semple acted as auctioneers for a lively auction sale and many good items were for sale, including homemade bread, cookies, eggs, plants and books. Lunch was served by Iona Blake and Alice Porter. News and notes The Goderich Township picnic will be held on Tuesday, June 16, with June 18 as the rain date. Watch for the coming events section in the Clinton News -Record for further information. Sympathy from the area goes out to the family of the late Mrs. Huller. United news Worship service was held hi the Holmesville United Church on Sunday morning and flowers in the sanctuary were placed as a tribute to Mrs. Holler. Rev. Scott showed ' the children a picture of the senior members of the Sunday School, a tribute to the Dutch -Canadians. Mr. Scott also showed the congregation photographs of the Dutch -Canadians, depicting what they do on workdays and how they work in the community. Murray and Jim Lobb received the offering. The annual ham and salad supper will be held on June 4 in the Holmesville , United Church from 5 to 7:30 pm. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. This Sunday, May 31, Rev. McKay will be at the Holmesville Church. Anyone wishing to transfer to tlw Holmesville Church will be welcomed. On June 7th, the Sunday School an- niversary will be celebrated and on June 14 the service will be held 'at Camp Menesetung on Lake Huron, just north of Goderich. Bail news Don't miss the slo-pitch game on Sunday afternoon, May 31 at the Holmesville School Diamond. Porter's Hill takes on Holmesville at 1:30 pm, so bring your lawn chair and be ready for as afternoon of lively en- tertainment. Thanks to our enthusiastic coaches, our season is off to a good start with most of the teams practicing now. Only the youngsters are waiting until closer to the end of school to begin softball. No. 4 Community Club which president, Marlene Forbes opened with a poem, "Spr- ing". Spring". Linda Jones read the minutes of the April meeting and Milena Labb gave a financial report. Norene Tebbutt read a "Tribute to the S.S. No. 4 Cornrnunity Club Ladies" by "Unknown", thanking the ladies for the work and time spent in completing the crest for the new hall and the suc- cessful dance held in April. Plans were made for the Community Fireworks for . May 16 and the June meeting will be held in the afternoon on June 3 at the home of Grace Forbes. Following the meeting, a shower was held for Sylvia Forbes. Alison Lobb and Lin- da Jones conducted a few contests. Lunch was served with Madeline Bartlett, Karon Watson, Edna Oakes and Dianne Lobb assisting the hostess. The community fireworks held May 16 can be con- sidered successful by the ohs 1110 and ahs of the youngsters as the crackers went off. Over 90 turned out and the weatherman was very kind.
