Brydges when Kenneth Noakes and family from Hamilton and Waterdown were also d n tes, Iiappe visiting, when all enjoyed a real family get-together. Mrs. Alice Ferg who was a patient in South Huron Hospital in Exeter has returned to her home. Mrs. Bertha MacGregor was a representative at a one -day seminar held in Clinton last week under the direction of Myra Schrift. The purpose of this meeting was to go through a series of exercises designed to help a community determine the extent to which its collective resources are adequately meeting the leisure needs of its older adults. In spite of overcast skies and threatening rain, the Hensall United Church and district committee for Senior Citizen Housing held a very successful rummage, auc- tion and bake sale raising a total of approximately $1,800 from the three events. This will make a fine foundation from which to launch a cam- paign for funds for necessary, preliminary ex- penses. The committee wishes to thank all who helped in any way to make the day a success. Amber Lodge meets Amber Lodge met on Wednesday evening for the regular meeting. Noble Grand Bertha MacGregor was assisted by the Vice - Grand, Gladys Coleman, who reported on cards sent to members. Mrs. Evelyn McBeath gave a report on the..distriet meeting which she attended as represen- tative in Brussels. The pro- ceeds ° from the dessert euchre and bake sale were -most gratifying. The IOOF and Rebekahs will attend worship in Carmel Presbyterian Church on May 24th at 10:15 a.m. The open installation will be held in the local hall on June 21st at 8 p.m. for the D.D.G,M. Nominations followed. Lodge closed and refreshments were served by Irene Blackwell, Edith Bell and Leona Parke. Unit IV meets The UCW meeting of Unit IV was held in the Fellowship Hall of Hensall United Church on Thursday, May 7 with Mrs. Nan Britton presiding. She opened the meeting with 12 important things to remember and a hymn was sung. Mrs. Susan Purdy had charge of the devotional reading portions from the book of Acts. She spoke on the Christian Church in South Korea and also stated Partnership is Vital. Mrs. Nan Britton also spoke ,on Partnership and said we can be blessed being with others, so we can receive as well as give. Following her reading she led in prayer. Rev. The roll call was answered by 14 members present. Mrs. Dorothy Mickle was secretary and pianist for the meeting. The treasurer, Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt gave a gratifying report of proceeds from the beef barbecue in April. Mrs. Gladys Coleman received the offering. Business followed and the group was reminded about the bake sale at the Fiddlers' Contest and the group is to provide and serve lunch at the general meeting in June and is responsible for the flowers in the church in May. Seventy-eight visits were made to the -sick and shut-ins during the past two months. Mrs. Mary Roobol, card con- vener, reported eight Easter cards and one birthday card sent. Tile prograzri number was gi en by Mrs. Mary Roobol and she read two poems and the meeting dos- ed with a hymn and prayer by Mrs. Britton. A social hour followed and lunch was served by Mrs. Pearl Shad - dick, Mrs. Roobol and Mrs. Gladys Coleman. The residents of Queensway Nursing Home are most grateful to Unit II of the Hensall United Church for bingo and treats, the ladies of the Mennonite Church, Zurich for an after- noon of bingo and to Mrs. Elizabeth Faber for transportation to go bowling. Rev° Hargraves was in charge of the church service. United News Hensall United Church was beautifully decorated with spring flowers donated from the garden of Mrs. Mary Haugh of Brucefield for Christian Family Sunday on May 10, Mother's Day. Sunday School was cancelled so that families could wor- ship together. The children's talk was on the comforting presence of a mother. Rev. Stanley McDonald took as his text, "Honour Thy Father and Thy Mother", and spoke on the challenge of belonging to a Christian family, the parents' responsibilities be- ing o-ing to raise the children in love and security, to be a good example and to be a good influence. The children must also be responsible and honor their parents and follow the example they have set. The service was conducted on the theme, "God is Here". First we come, second we listen and lastly,we respond. Social family hymns were sung during the service. Welcoming at the front door were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stebbins and family. Ushers were Brian Beer and Steve Corbett. Next Sunday is Canadian\\Bible Society Sun- day when Rev. Howlett of London will be guest speaker. Unit 1 of the UCW will be meeting on Thursday, May 14th at 2 p.m. "Boo hoo, we are poor little petunias in an onion patch," sing the morning kindergarten class at Clinton Public school as their part of the primary grade's concert last week. Nearly 350 packed the auditorium for the event. Mrs. Kathy Bell was in charge of devo- tional and gave an ' in- teresting message. Mrs. Ske gave a reading and an invita- tion was received to Caen Church in Exeter on May 11, also a thank you note from the staff of Queensway. Mrs. Bell thanked all who helped at the Queensway Nursing Horne and a card of thanks was received from the Thomson family. Ar- rangements were made for the birthday party on June 1. The offering was received and dedicated by Mrs. Bell. Chiselhurst UCW Chiselhurst UCW held their monthly meeting last Tuesday with president. Mrs. Dorothy Brintnell presiding. Mrs. Dorothy Parker presented the wor- ship and plans were finalized for the birthday party at the Bluewater Rest Home on • May 13.
