Greeting were Reg. Lawson and Mur- ray Howatt and ushers were Elizabeth Lawson, Colleen Carter, Carol Cartwright and Laurel Duizer. The music was supplied by the junior choir with director Barb Bosman, and. organist Louise McGregor. The children stayed for the ser- vice. The sermon was "Families don't just hap- pen" and Rev. Scott told about a little boy sent to bed for loudly saying, "pass the butter", but he had asked, "please pass the butter" and no one heard. The moral - is anyone listening to the needs of others? UCW meet The UCW general meeting was held on May 4 and presi- dent Edythe Beacom welcomed all and opened with a reading, a prayer, and song with Hattie Wood at the piano. The devotions were given by Helen Lee and the meditation by Edythe, she thanked all who helped while she was away, especially Alice Davidson and Brenda Radford, the social commit- tee and the Aimweil unit for their project. The minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary Joan Whyte, and the treasurer's report given by Margaret Good showed a balance of $1,004.19. Cor- respondence included thank you notes from Vi Burns, Margaret Taylor, David Whyte, Florence Cartwright from Les and Shirley Dale for Tom Bettie. A letter and report card was read from Lam Sue Bing, the foster child. Helen Lee wil1:write to her and 17 Explorers sent letters to her. An invitation to visit Kent County Fair- field Museum where Rev. and Mrs. Brenton are curators (former minister here 1947-52) at Bothwell was received. Several invita- tions were received - to Win- throp on May 6th at 8 p.m.; May 9th UCW workshop; May 10th at 7:30 p.m. the Clinton Ontario Street and Wesley -Willis Churches' family night; on May 12th to the Clinton Public Hospital from 2-4 p.m.; May 3Ist at 7:30 p.m. to Blyth United Church for the Gospel sing- ing group called Re -union; June 2 at 2 p.m. Brucefield Visitors Day. For business Edythe Beacom read the guidelines for officers' duties. A letter from Doreen Carter, "Flowers of Hope", was read and it was moved to donate $25 to the Flowers of Hope for South Huron District for Mentally Han- dicapped. June Fothergill will attend the Westminster Weekend on May 29-31. Londesboro will host the regional meeting in October of 1982. Reports were given by Dora Shobbrook on cards; Cathy McDougall for social. Helen Lee reported for Aimwell unit and dona- tions of jam, quilt patches and craft articles will be ac- cepted and a craft table will be on display at church social functions. The next general meeting will be on June 8th with Explorer girls and their mothers as guests, in charge of lunch are Helen Lee and Helen Lawson. It was agreed to donate $8 to the Board of Stewards. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Colin Pater- son of London spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs, Bob Burns and on Sunday all spent Mother's Day with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Smith and family in Kincar- dine. Two car loads of UCW members attended the Win- throp Easter Thankoffering on Wednesday, May 6th. June and Heather Fothergill attended the 40th wedding anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs. John Blake of Blyth in the Community Centre, Saturday night, May 9th. Saturday evening dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carter and Colleen were Larry Carter of Simcoe, Colleen Gilliland of Kitchener, Cathy Johnston of London, Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong and Mr. George Carter. Mr. and Mrs. John Lawrie, Robbie and Jennifer of Kit- chener spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson and all attended the retirement par- ty for John's father Jim Lawrie in the Blyth Com- munity Centre on Friday night. Mrs. Cud - more took the roll call and John Deeves spoke on his trip to Kingston two years ago and how someone should be sent to represent the Enterprising Seniors. Mrs. J. Semple made a motion that we host the next Zone Rally next fall Discussion was held on a picnic and committee members named were Everett Mcllwain, Jack Smith and Bert McCreath. An auction will be held at the next meeting on May 31st at 8 p.m. Alva Cox and Alice Porter will be in charge of lunch. The meeting ad- journed and Jack Smith was in charge of entertainment and had three tables of euchre playing. The winners were Jack Sterling and Ed Deeves. Other members played shuffleboard and winners were Bert McCreath By Blanche Deeves School Concert The band gave a few numbers under the direction of Mr. Blackwell. The Grade 1 class under the direction of Mrs. Colclough and Mrs. Brereton, performed three choral readings along with a few springtime songs and a May Pole dance. Merry Patter did a tap dance. The' Grade 5 class put on four short plays, fairy tales rewritten by them. They also did a series of gymnastics, all pupils of Ms. McCauley. Miss Jewell's Grade 3 program started with a piano solo by Tressa Rodges. This was followed by a couple of songs and a choral reading. "That's insane," was the name of the skit presented by Mr. Spittal's Grade 7 class. These children prepared this skit by themselves. Mr. Blackwell directed the choir in three songs to close off the program which saw a very good attendance to see the children perform. Paddlecade Canoe Ontario Paddlecade will present a canoe safety demonstration. They do the demonstration and you do the participating on Wed- nesday, May 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Holmesville School. Everyone is welcome. Paddlecade is sponsored by the ministry of natural resourses, the ministry of culture and recreation and the Canada National Sportsman Show. Enterprising Seniors The Enterprising Seniors met In the Community Centre last Thursday, with Everett Mclllwain in charge. Mrs. Cudmore read the minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer's report was given and ap- proved. David Whyte had the misfortune to run a fork into his foot and he spent from Wednesday until Sunday in Clinton Hospital. Mrs. John Thompson held a bridal shower for her niece, Kathy Hunter of London, last weekend. Relatives were present from Tillsonburg, Ingersoll, Toronto, Sarnia, London, Goderich, Owen Sound and Stratford. Sharon Thompson has completed her course in Retail Flori Culture at Toronto Humber College. She is now employed at Wade's Flgwers in Stratford. WI meeting Mrs. Molly Cox played the piano for the opening exercises of the Women's Institute meeting on May 11. President Mrs. Millie Dempsey chaired the meeting and Mrs. Bernice McIlwain secretary treasurer read the minutes and correspondence. The Roll Call was answered with the name of a flower that started with the first initial of each member's name. Delegates to attend the District Anrual Meeting at St. Helens on May 25 are Hazel McCreath, Irene Cudmore and Berneice Mcllwain. Some members attended the workshop in Blyth in the afternoon.
