Yes sir! Down in Florida there is a type of fish that actually walks on land and breathes: This fish is called a Clarias batrachus and is better known as a walking catfish. This energetic fish was brought to the U.S. from eastern India and Southeast Asia. Tropical fish dealers thought they'd be neatto to sell. Some escaped the fish stores and" walked to the nearest pond. Walking catfish are about 15 inches long and usually pale pink. Their legs? They're not like regular legs with knees and feet -they're just very stiff fins. These fish look like cats because they have long whiskers called barbels. , Although these fish are unusual - who'd ever think that a fish could walk! - they are causing some trouble in Florida. They breed very quickly and eat all the other fish around. They take over whole ponds. Government officials have been trying to get rid of them, but every time a trap is set, the fish just walk away. If a pond dries up, they hike over to a new one. Sometimes the fish travel in a large groups. They almost always move at night when the air is moist - they don't like their skin to dry out. Late one night, a man in Florida saw 300 of those pink creatures crawl across the highway in front of his house. The man's dog barked - who knows what the dog thought. Will this fish ever come to Canada? No, they like being warm, and the Canadian winter is much too cold for them. Besides, it's an awfiRly long way to walk.
