ing Kate, with the partial
plate. But don't bring Lula,"
and so on, for verse after
verse. I couldn't remember
what was wrong with Lana.
Dave Lister of McDonald's
Corners, Ont., and Mary
Tilden of Nepean, Ont., have
filled me in.
Mary writes: "Words I am
art you are longing to
"You can bring Pearl,
she's a darn nice girl, but
don't etc."
She adds, "Sorry I only
know the last line:"
"Hullabaloola, don't bring
Lula, I'll bring her myself."
Dave corroborates this
with, "There was nothing
wrong with Lula. The last
line of the song said, 'I'll las
ing her myself.' "
Certainly glad that's
cleared up.
Parents work
together
La Leche League of
Belgrave held a successful
"Couple's Night" on April II
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
P. Greenwood of Wingham.
A fihn "The Nursing Cou-
ple" was shown, followed by
a lively discussion of the role
of the father during pregnan-
cy; birthing and parenting.
The meeting `Nutrition
and Weaning" was held at
the home of Mrs. L. Nolan et
Wingham, who was
presented with "The Righty
of Infants; ; by M. Ribble, as
thanks for hostessing this
series.
Introduced was a brand
new LLL brochure
"Breastfeeding: The Beat
Beginning", which is funded
completely by "Happy
Family Products", thereby
making this brochure
available free to all in-
terested mothers. The cover
has a full -colour photo of a
Canadian mother and baby
and contains much informa-
tion.
Mrs., Barbara Kerr
leader, opened the topic of
weaning with thoughts of
mothers considering the
ways breastfeeding satisfies
the needs of baby from birth
to weaning. When to add
solids, and which first foody
to introduce were noted,
followed by methods rd
weaning. Weaning was view-
ed as a stage of growth in the
baby's development.
Labels of foods purchased
in supermarkets were pass-
ed out for mothers to .guess
the food and share ideas on
how these foods could be
made at home in a more
nutritious manner. The LLL
cookbook was recommended
as a good source of
homemade meals.
Everyone was invited to
attend the next series at tie
home of Mrs. Colleen Schenk
of Wingham.
The meeting was closed
with a number of sayings,
such as "Breastmilk is like
Pepsi, it's got a lot to give,"
and "Breastmilk is like
Coke, itis the real thine."
Get ready
for asparagus
Marketing specialists at
the Ontario IVlinistry of
Agriculture and Food sug-
gest you prepare now for On-
tario's asparagus season.
Enjoy the delectable taste et
fresh Ontario asparagus
from the end of April until
the end of June and especial-
ly during the peak season
from mid-May to mid-June.
When shopping for fresh
asparagus, choose straight,
bright green stalks with
firm, tightly closed tips,
They should measure about 6
to 8 inches in length. Allow
four servings per pound,
40 with three to four stalks per
serving.
For best quality, use the
asparagus the same day you
buy it. But if you must store
it, wrap a damp towel
around the bottom of the
stalks and place them in a
plastic bag in the
refrigerator. Use within two
days.
To prepare asparagus for
cooking, break off the woody
base where it snaps easily.
Keep the base for cooking in
soups. Wash the asparagus
thoroughly in cold water to
remove any clinging sand.
Asparagus should always
be cooked just until crisp -
tender. It may be stearned,
boiled, sauteed or baked._ /
• Serve with a topping _ot
melted butter, reelted
cheese, grated cheese, sour
cream, yogurt, hollandaise
sauce, or vinaigrette dress-
ing.
reaming. Garnish with chopped or
sliced hard -cooked egg,
sauteed mushrooms,
crumbled bacon or parsley.
