Mrs. Hazel Crockford of United news A large congregation was welcomed to the Londesboro United Church on Sunday morning by Bert Lyon and Nelson McClure. The ushers Keri___ Shepherd, Theresa Overboe, Julia Shaddick and Crystal Whyte. Rev. Scott welcomed everyone and announced that the Song Fest will be held on May 3 with the junior choir and many other talented singers and musicians taking part. Mr. Scott asked the church elders to submit the names of eight and nine year olds to him by April 5. He also noted that, Baby and Toddler Care would benefit from donations of good used toys, a new toy box and reasonable sized pieces of carpet. People are asked to call Ann Adams at 523-4415 if they have any donations. It was also an- nounced that the Londesboro UCW have been invited to attend the Blyth UCW's Thank Offering service on Apri112. Mr. Scott introduced the confirmation class and Margaret Whyte introduced eiders Susan Jamieson, Murray Howatt and John Lawson to Mr. Scott for induction. The junior teachers for the day were Joan Shepherd and Marguerite Gross. Shuffleboard The shuffleboard players met last Wednesday night and Audrey Thompson took the high score for the ladies while Les Reid was the high man. Clara Riley was the low lady and Bob Thompson had the low men's score. Bob and Audrey Thompson were the high couple. The next shuffleboard meet will take place on April 1. Toronto visited recently with her aunt Mrs. Ida Durnin. Mrs. Mildred McNeil spent a couple of days last week with her cousin Mrs. Joe Shaddick.. Mrs. Ross. Millson, Darren, Sarah and John of Woodstock visited from Wednesday to Friday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobtrook. Patricia visited in Clinton with her cousin Dorie Ellerby. Mr and _Mrs- Jerk Lee visited on Sunday with their aunts Jewel Cowan and Mary Robinson in Hanover. Miss Julie Scott of Goderich spent several days over the past week with her grandmother Mrs. Jim Scott. Mrs. Jay Carter, Cherri and Tracy and Mr. Pete Black of Cottam spent Saturday with Mrs. Jim Scott. Mrs. Edna Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Holmes and Darren of Dresdan visited on March 19 with Mrs. Ida Durnin. Eda stayed on for the week with her sister Ida Durnin and Darren played hockey in Goderich. Mrs. Bob Burns spent Monday and Tuesday in London with her daughter Mr. and Mrs. Colin Paterson. Down at the local lanes Molson's Crown Mixed In the second last week of playoffs, the Chickadees are in first place with 9,132 and the Canaries are 1,000 pins behind for' a last place position of 8,132. The Blackbirds have a hold on second place with 8,888, leaving the Bluejays in third place with 8,811. The Hawks have 8,664 and the Falcons are next with 8,532. The Cardinals"have 8,487 and the Penguins have 8,381 leaving the Canaries in last place. Marj Moore was the ladies' high bowler, taking the high single of 265, the high triple of 707 and the high average of 227. Bob Falconer had the men's high single of 316. Bob Atkinson had the high triple of 818 and Ken Johnston bowled his way to the high average of 240. Tuesday Afternoon Ladies League. Ramona's Pistachios are at the top of the standings with 10,172 and Bonnie's Beer Nuts are in second place with 10,131. Castle's .,Chestnutsareclose behind with 10,123 and Beulah's Butternuts have 9,917. With 9,555 Rose's Roasted Nuts are next and Ruby's Cashews have 9,513. Edgar's Almonds have 9,260 points and Bircham's Beechnuts are in last place with 8,880. Nora Heard had the high Oldtimers club formed Clinton will join a host of other towns in the area, and next year the town will have an oldtimers hockey team. At a recent formation meeting, a new executive was elected, and ap- plications for team mem- bership will be sought at a meeting on April 29 at the arena. Membership will be on a first come, first served basis. The team is the brain child of Bill Counter and John Robinson of Clinton, two oldtimers who still play hockey every week and have seen more ice than a waiter at the old Cloud Nine room. The team is open to players of any calibre who are 35 years old or older as of August 1, 1981. The team is also looking for a name, and are open to any suggestions. As most of Clinton teams have been named after male horses like the Colts, or the Mustangs, some have suggested the old timers be called the Old Stallions, or the Old Claimers, or even the Old Studs. Goalie Bill Crawford of Holmesville was elected president, while Ken Dupee of Clinton was picked vice- president and Gene Powell was elected secretary - treasurer. single of 261 and the high triple of 631. Warren's Wrenches are next with 3,036 and Sid's Crowbars have 2,927 points. Scottie's Screwdrivers have 2,877 and Broadfoot's Hammers are close behind with 2,867. Hilda Gerrits was the top woman bowler, taking the high ,single of 231 and the high triple of 646. For the men, Harry Dekens had the high single of 268 and Angus Hummel had the high triple of 675. Ramblings from the races Jantilly Amy trotted to her second win in a row with a 2:05.3 mile at Windsor Raceway on March 25. The five-year-old mare by For- mal Notice, a son of Kimber- ly Kid, now has six victories to her credit from 12 starts in 1981, good for earnings of $7,488 and $10,322. This is an open meeting and everyone is welcome to attend and UCW members are asked to note the cliange in the meeting date. The unit is also planning to set up a talent and craft table, which will be on display when they serve dinners at the Blyth Summer Festival. Any donations for the table would be greatly appreciated and they many be given to Helen Lee, Marion Snell or any other UCW member. WI card party There were nine tables in play on March 27 at the WI's final card party of the season. With a tug from a back hoe from Carl Nesbitt's Londesboro company, the former Jervis Aluminum building on Albert Street came crashing to the ground last week. The con- demned building is being razed for owner Mason Bailey. (James Fitzgerald photo) Constance will rebuild hall by Mary Merner A Foresters meeting was held on Wednesday evening, March 25th in the Londesboro Hall to decide what to do with the Con- stance Foresters Hall since the fire. It was decided to remove the old hall and build a new one. When this was being writ- ten on Monday, most of the building had been .removed by Mellwain Construction of Seaforth. A student of the great Pierre Monteux, Mr. Feldbrill is a Canadian who has established an interna- tional reputation as a ver- satile master of wide- ranging repertoire with his own inimitable enthusiasm when conducting symphonic music, whether classical, romantic or contemporary. Long associated with the Toronto and Winnipeg Sym- phony Orchestras, he has conducted all of Canada's major symphonies and made several appearances on CBC radio and television. Under the sponsorship of the Goderich Rotary Club, with the generous support of the Sully Foundation, the final concert will feature the artistry of the concert- master and first violinist Eduard Minevich.
