Plant sale set for May
The Auburn Horticultural
Society executive met last
week at the home of the
president, Mrs. Ross Robin-
son, to plan for the corning
season. Plans were made to
attend the District meeting
in Hanover on May 25 and
anyone wishing to go please
notify Mrs. Robinson or Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock by April
13 for reservations.
The annual plant sale and
a film will be the highlights
of the next meeting planned
for May 12 at 8 p.m. Lunch
committee will be Mrs.
Dorothy Grange, Mrs. Jim
Glousher and Mrs. Ross
Robinson.

WI hear about= Germany trip
Pictures of the world-
renowned Passion Play
presented last year in
Oberammergau, Germany
were shown by Mrs. Mary
Wightman of Blyth at the
March meeting of the
Auburn Women's Institute
held in the Community
Memorial Hall. She gave an
interesting commentary on
the trip which she had taken
last year to see the play
which is presented every 10
years. The pictures showed
the crucifixion of Christ and
told . the _E--aster..,story in "
a
very interesting way.
The meeting was in the
charge of the Education and
Cultural Activities con-
veners,- Mrs. Emerson
Rodger and Mrs. Hugh Ben-
nett. Mrs. Bennett introduc-
ed Mrs. Wightman and she
was presented with a gift
and thanked by Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock.
The meeting was opened
with the Ode, Mary Stewart
Collect and 0 Canada, with
Mrs. Catherine Jackson as.
pianist. The president, Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock welcom-
ed all and read a poem "A
Song of Spring". The
minutes were adopted as
-read by the assistant
secretary, Mrs. Rick Hawley
in the absence of the
secretary, Mrs. Robert
Peck. Correspondence was
read. A letter from Auburn 2,
4-H club asked the WI
members to save labels off
Kraft, Schneiders, Maple •
Leaf and Zehrs products.
Mrs. Rick Hawley spoke of
the crewel embroidery
course which is finished and
thanked all who had par-
ticipated. She announced
that Achievement Night for
this course would be held on
March 30 in Wingham from 7
to 10 p.m.
It was announced that the
Huron West District ex-
ecutive would meet April 6 in
Holmesville at 1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Tom Jardin will go in
place of Mrs. Tom Haggitt,
along with other members of
the executive.
The Lions Club dinner will
be on April 15 with Mrs. Tom
Haggitt, Mrs. Frank Raithby
and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock
as the committee in charge.
Mrs. Frank Raithby
reported on the labels col-
lected.

Blyth Theatre for the Arts
and told of the meeting with
Mrs. Mildred McAdam, who
has asked for assistance
with a reception, at the
theatre. Several ladies
volunteered to make
cookies.
The date of the annual
meeting was changed to
April 16 at 12:30 p.nn. with a
pot -luck dinner. The direc-
tors, Mrs. Leonard Archam-
bault, Mrs. Frank Raithby
and Mrs. Lillian Letherland
will be in charge. There will
be a display of crafts and the
district president, Mrs.
William Porter, will be the
guest

Syrup Festival
The Auburn and District
Lions Club met last Wednes-
day with dinner served by
members of the Knox United
Church Women. Fourteen
members and four guests
from Blyth and Brussels
Lions Club were present.
Lion President Steve Camp-
bell was in charge. Lion Bill
Sproul won the dinner draw.
The secretary Lion Bob
Worsell gave his report
which was accepted on mo-
tion of Lion Marinus Bakker,
seconded by Lion Bill Sproul.
The financial statement was
given by Lion , Doug
Chamney and adopted on
motion of Lion Ken Scott,
seconded ,bye', Lion Marinus
Bakker. 1
Two new members were
inducted into the club: the
Reverend William Craven
sponsored by Lion Jim
Schneider and Murray
Rourke sponsored by Lion.

SDHS gains students
SEAFORTH - Contrary to
reports 'in other secondary
schools, Seaforth District
High School (SDHS) is
seeing an increase In
enrollment, nota decline.
SDHS principal Bruce
Shaw reported that 363
students enrolled in Sep-
tember, there are 367
students attending today and
there will likely be 370
students next fall.
However, while SDHS isn't
experiencing the declining
enrollment problems of
other schools, two Grade 13
courses, History 550 and
Frerleh 550 will be dropped.
