There was a good turn out
at the Londesboro United
Church on Sunday morning
when the World Day of
Prayer service followed the
regular service. Darlene
• Hulley, Brenda Nesbitt,
Sandy Memer and Kim
Wright welcomed the people
at the door.
Rev. Scott announced that
on March 15, Rick Hawley
will be the guest speaker
while Rev. Scott will be
serving communion in
Auburn.
Rev. Scott read the in-
troduction and the program
was read by the UCW ladies
Brenda Radford, Alice
Davidson, Shirley Scott and
Helen Lawson.•
UCW general meeting
The UCW general meeting
was held on March 2 with 15
ladies present. Alice
Davidson opened the
meeting with a poem and
Barbara Bosman played the
• piano.

tre urer's report and Joan
Whyte read the minutes
from previous meetings.
Correspondence included a
letter and Christmas card
frorn the group's Foster
Child Lam Sue Bing. Thank
you notes were received
from Anna Keys, Lloyd and
Nona Pipe, Lloyd and Vera
Penfound and family, Jim
Neilans and Ken Grant in
appreciation for his parents'
iversary dinner.
Invitations were received
to attend the UCW meeting
- p Seaforth on April 15 and
the Walton UCW meeting on
ay 3. The group was
reminded that the Ontario
Street UCW will be holding
their Daffodil Tea in Clinton
on March 11 anda workshop,
sponsored by the London
conference, will be held in
Seaforth on May 9. A letter
was received from Bess
Fingland of Clinton regar-
ding the Red Cross can-
vassing.
The UCW will be in charge
of serving the lunch to the
confirmation class on April
12. Mrs. Davidson, Margaret
Whyte and Helen Lee will be
in charge of this.
The price of meals was
discussed and it was decided
to set the price of a roast beef
dinner at $5.50 and for steak,
$6•
It was agreed that
Margaret Good should buy a
lily for Easter and Mrs.
Davidson reported on the
Huron -Perth Presbyterial
meeting in Brucefield on
January 26. She was assisted
by June Fothergill and Dora
S-hobbrook ,with reports .on
leadership development,
church in society, Christian
development, com-
munication and stewardship.
Get well cards were sent to
Addie Hunking and Florence
Cartwright, who are both in
hospital. After the meeting
Mrs. Davidson served lunch.
News and notes
The March 4 shuffleboard
winners included: ladies'
high, Helen Lawson; men's
high, Les Reid; ladies' low,
Clara Riley and men's low,
Clare Vincent. The playoff
winners were Tom Allen and
Vietta Hoggart.
The Aimwell Unit of the
UCW will meet at the church
on March 16 at 8 pm. All
ladies are welcome
Try your luck. The WI will
be holding their card party
on Friday, March 13 at 8:30
pm. Everyone is welcome to
come out and challenge
Friday the 13th with a game
of cards.

The Londesboro III, 4-H
Handy Hemmers held their
sixth meeting `at the home of
Marjorie Duizer on March 2.
Ten members named a
sewing technique they had
!earned and Mrs. Bromley
showed how to apply bias
tape'
Cheryl Bromley and Helen
Kolkman were chosen to be
the commentators at
Achivement Day and lunch
was served by Mrs. Duizer
and Mrs. Bromley.
Neighborly news
Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Alexander were in London
last week ,when Norman's
Water and Erosion -Control
demonstration was on
display at the Farm Show,
under the auspices of the
ministry of agriculture and
food.

at the Blyth WI meeting on
March 5.
_ Mrs. Ida Durnin spent a
few days last week with her
neice Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Waun at Exeter.
Mrs. Bob Thompson spent
Tuesday to Sunday with her
mother Mrs. William
Hamilton in Moorefield and
visited her father in the
Palmerston Hospital. He
suffered a stroke on March 2.
A pleasant afternoon was
spent on Sunday at Mr. and
Mrs. Bert Shobbrook's with
Maimie Crawford of Blyth,
Thelma Ellerby and Vera
Gibbings of Clinton and
Laura Saundercock of
Londesboro all visiting.
Mrs. Ida Durnin visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Ivan McLachlin and Mrs.
AgnesSkimmins of Blyth.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Shaddick spent Monday to
Wednesday night with her
sister Mr. and Mrs.' Don
Habkirk in Essex.

ett volleyball
teams play well
Volieybell tournament
All the hard work finally
paid off for the Hallett Cen-
tral volleyball teams, who
have been practising for the
last two months.
On February 21, both the
girls' and boys' teams par-
. ticipated against other
schools at the Clinton high
school in a tournament.
The girls' volleyball team,
coached by Mrs. Cooke and
Miss Bennett, finished in se-
cond place, while the boys'
volleyball team coached by
Mr. White did not do as well,
but placed fourth.
We hope next year that the
teams will do even better.
Hockey
Starting on Monday,
11c pch 2� street--hockey—
facilities were made
available for students.
Grades 5-6 played on Tues-
day and Thursday and
grades 7.8 played on Monday
and Wednesday. Junior
grades play on the blacktop.
Vet visits
On Thursday, February
26, Dr. Bryan Nuhn from the
Seaforth Veterinarian Clinic
visited Grades 3 and 8.
Grade 3 studied health pro-
tection. Dr. Nuhn brought
some veterinarian equip-
ment to the school to show
the pupils.
He then bandaged the arra
of Tracy Root and dressed
Kevin Gerrits in a surgical
outfit. The students enjoyed
the vet very much.
