motored to London on Fri-
day for a visit with her

Dowler. While there, they at-

The Moleman got' tired of
cleaning out his oil stove so
he pitched it out over the
Weekend and installed a fan -
o new in -the -wall electric
type heater. Fifty now hopes
that the power doesn't go off.
To the rescue over the
weekend was your roving
reporter at large,' Bud
Sturgeon, as he was called
upon to remove an owl from
a house. The conversation
went something like this.
Ringggg..."Heellow", says
"I need help, there is an
Owl in the hone.", says she.
"What's it doing?" says I.
"Just sitting on the window
Sill over the sink staring at
flue," says she.
"That's nice, what do you
Want me to do, take a pic-
ture?", says L "Help me get
it out of here, it might he
rabid!", says she. "Is it
frothing at the beak?", says
I. "I don't know," says she.
"Are you sure it's alive?"
says I. "Yes, it's flapping its
wings now", says she.
So off I went to see the owl.
Sure enough it was an owl. It
Was about a foot tall, tawny
brown coloured with a
gnashing beak and clutching
Claws. After an unsuccessful
attempt to catch it with a
green garbage bag (nuts to
Man from Glad) I grabbed it
with my bare hands. I car-
ried it to the front door. I let
it go. It flew away. But kids,
it you're reading this, don't
attempt this stunt by
yourself, you have to know
how to carry an owl. That's
Incredible,-but.it's the truth..
Somebody tossed a suit-
case onto the old River Road
Oen Saturday morning. The
doderich OPP investigated
the occurrence.
Greg and Emmily Nielsen
visited their cottage over the
weekend. '
Mr. Fred Fraser un-
derwent minor surgery in
London on Monday of this
week, and appears to be
making satisfactory
progress.
Garden Club
The first meeting of the
1981 session of the Bayfield
Garden Club will be held on
Monday next February 9th
at 8 p.rn. at the Municipal
Building. New members
welcomed.

Reverend Robert, Mrs.

Monday with `his parents,
Reverend William and Mrs.
Bennett.
Mrs. Floyd Diemert and
Mrs. Lena Ervine visisted
Friday with the former's
family, Mr. and Mrs. Ron
Diemert, Brian and Karen in
Se Marys and on Saturday
Ron was the guest of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Diemert,_ Wayne and Rick.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Meyer, Michelle and Marsha
of Milverton were Sunday
guests of her mother, Mrs.
Lena Ervine.
Mr. and Mrs. John
McLeod, Port Stanley were
the weekend guests of his
sister, Miss Dorothy McLeod
and also called on other
relatives in the village.
Nip 'n Tuck's Dorothy was
experimenting with the new
microwave and tried to cook
an egg without breaking the
yolk. After several explo-
sions inside the machine she
opened it up to find a real big
mess.

Marks who is confined in
University Hospital, London.

To the indisposition
of the hector, the Rev. Wm.
Bennett, the Bishop
arranged for the Rev. R.
Crocker to chair the atria
meeting held in the Parish
Hall on Thursday last.
Before getting down to the
official business of the
evening, the 45 people
present sat down to *toy a
magnificent meal provided
by the ladies.
Opening the meeting, the
Rev. Crocker initiated the
proceedings with the ap-
pointment of the Vestry
Clerk, and Miss Kay Reid
agreed to continue in this
office for a further year. The
minutes of the last meeting
were read and approved,
followed by the reports of the
individual groups. Harry
Baker read an extract from
a letter received from the
Bishopsacknowiedging the
special collection that had
betel made or work an the
Mission field
It was particularly
gratifying to note that the
Sunday School was thriving

s view 1980 as a successful year
with an enrolment of some 20
children - an indication that
this foundation for the future
- an important part of the
work of the church, was
being fostered.
The treasurer, Mrs.
Florence Scott, was
congratulated on her report,
and once again the Parish
had been able to meet all its
commitments, despite the
need during the past year for
some heavy capital ex-
penditure;. It was also
pointed out that among the
future needs of the Parish
would be the provision of a
new Rectory, and this
matter was referred back to
the Board of Management
Discussion of the activities
undertaken by the Ladies
Guild and the Anglican
Church Women included the
responsibilities which these
,room bad assumed for the
cause of foster children, an
onok g reezeject, and perh-
aps, one which was not
common knowledge among
the congregation as a whole.

Asher wins MVP award
Stu Asher of Bayfield was
named the Most Valuable
Player of the Goderich In-
dustrial - Hockey League
Tournament held over the
weekend in the Circle City.
The two day event was a dou-
ble knockout with 'A° and 'B'
Divisions and drew many
area industrial and rec-
league lass teams.
Two Bayfield residents,
Stu Asher and Gilbert
Latimer, �,�: for O'Briens.
Meat Market who were
crowned the 'B' Consolation
Champions. The team won
the 'B' Trophy, $150 in prize
money and all the players
were awarded medallions:
Iml their opening game on
Saturday, Seaforth drubbed
O'Briens by a 9-2 score thus
relegating them to the Con-
solation Division. Saturday
night, O'Briens started their
winning streak with an easy
7-1 victory over Parkhill.
Asher scored a hat trick in
the game and his line ac-
counted for all seven goals.
Five members of the team
belong to the Goderich Fire
Department and were called
away in the middle of the se-
cond period to the tragic fir&
in Goderich on Saturday.
O'Briens finished the game
with only seven. players
dressed.
In their first game on Sun-
day, Asher scored another
hair of coals to lead his team
to a hard fought 5-3 win over
the Zurich entry. The win
allowed them. to advance to
the championship game and
Asher scored once as they
knocked off Southampton by
a 4-2 margin. .

replaces Auxiliary

A meeting of a' number of
-group leaders and parents of
members of the Boy Scout
and Girl Guide movemet►ts
was held in the Bayfield
United Church basement on
Saturday, January 31. It was
decided to form a "Parents'
Committee of Pathfinders,
Guides and Brownies."
The executive as chosen is
as follows: president, Mar-
sha Shepherd; vice-
president, ` Rose Taman;
secretary,' Sharon Sin-
namon; treasurer, Charlene
Porter; food convenor, Hilda
Gerger; phone committee
head, Carolyn. Snell; and
Catherine VanAaken, Grace
Dollery and. Marsha
Triebner in other capacities.

meeting is to be held in the
kitchen of the church base-
ment this Saturday (Feb. 7)
with the leaders of the girls'
groups invited to attend.
This new group will
replace the Ladies' Aux-
iliary to the Boy Scouts,
Cubs, Beavers, Guides and
Brownies.
Mothers of all children in-
volved in either movement
are invited to participate in
any way they feel they can
assist this committee.
Please call a member of the
executive if you are in-
terested. The regular
meeting date will be air
nounced fallowing this ex-
ecutive gathering.

his report, in which the
Rector expressed his thanks
to all those who had sup-
ported him throughout the
past year. Following the
report of the auditors, Philip
DuBoulay and Rev. G.
Youmatoff, the Nominating
Committee presented the
slate of officers for 1981:
rector's appointments,
churchwarden, Brig.
Morgan Smith, George
Fellows, Lorne Bamford,
Gordon Graham, Lorna
Merner and Tudor Wain.
Harry Baker continued as
P+eople's Warden, and Mrs.
Florence Scott as treasurer,
while Mrs. Lillian Higgins,
Mrs. Helen LeBeau, Pat
Graham, Mrs. Vera Turner
and Mrs. Ev. Earl made up
the balance of the ap-
pointments.
Reviewing the work of the
various groups and paying
tribute to the dedicated
work of all concerned,
reference was made to the
excellent job vthich Mrs.
Lorna Merner had carried
:hint in the administration of
the Sunday School funds, for
which she had been
responsible for the past 12
years.
Buckeyes ousted
The Zurich Buckeyes won
one and lost one as they were
eliminated in the second
round of an Intermediate
tockky Tournament Md: ,i a
the town of Forest over the
weekend.
In the opening game on
Friday night, the Bucks
needed a goal with 33
seconds left in the game by
Kim McKinnon to tie the
score at 3-3 and send it into
overtime to decide a winner.

'Millimetre' Merner put the
icing on the cake as Zurich
knocked 'off the host Forest
Boyds.

was pretty stiff and Sarnia
blew the Bucks out of the
tournament by a 9-1 score.
The Buckeyes had their
chances, but couldn't con-
nect before the game got out
of hand. Scoring the lone
goal for the Buckeyes was
captain John Graham.
Ever Youngs meet
The Ever Young Club met
in the Municipal Building
last Thursday evening, and
'was well attended_ The
meeting opened with the
singing of 'O Canada'
followed by the Lord's
Prater repeated in unison_ A
minute of silence was ob-
served in memory of
departed member, Mrs.
Nellie McRae.
The president, I.en Carter,
chaired the meeting,
treasurer, Dorothy Cox gave
her report, and Secretary,
Thelma • fritter read the
minutes for November, and
for the December Christmas
dinner meeting. A thank you
went to Mi vena for the little
favours she had provided at
the Christmas dinner - our
seniors • are always
remembered by her at this
event
Sgt Eric Gosse of the OPP
then showed a film
illustrating the dangers to
which senior citizens are
subject - shopping, out
walking, from obscene
'phone calls, intruders and
so forth. It was too bad that
all the seniors were not
present be see and hear the
filen which was both en-
joyable a nd educational.
Lunch was served and the
evening concluded with a
happy social hour enjoyed by
all present.
Special mention was also
made of the role of Mrs.
Lena Ervine, who has
cleaned the church regularly
- in fact in April she will have
completed 25 years' service!
Summing up the year,
Harry Baker introduced
some light relief in his ac-
count of some of the more
serious maintenance
problems that had been
encountered, and overcome.
General thanks and ap-
preciation were expmssed to
the Rev. Crocker for
chairing the meeting, and as
a mementp of the occasion,
Dr. Grove Shepherd
presented him with a set of
Trinity Church Hasti-Notes.
Trinity group will meet on
Thursday, February Sth at 2
p.m. at the home of Mts. G.

the same day at 0 p.m. at the
home of Mrs. Alvin Dutot.
Playoffs begin
The Bayfield Mixed Curl-
ing Club wound up their
regular season play last Sun-
day night at the arena and
will now begin three weeks
of playoff games.
