with issues of The Farmer's
Advocate dated as far bar as
1913. They were addressedlto
Frank R. Weeks. The ads -
were especially interesting,
some from companies still in
existence. An ad for a folding
bath tub interested me in
particular, as we had one
when I was a duld.
One men's suit company
npany
advertised suits for $12.50 to
$16.50. There are many ads
for stoves, most of them
quite ornate, and a lot of pic-
tures of draft horses. Butter
on the Montreal market was
22 to 24c a pound, cheese 13c,
"strictly fresh" eggs 29c per
dozen.
The skating carnival for
Stanley Township rs,
being held this Saturday

and children are to came in

prizes awarded for best
costumes.. Races will also be
held (no broamlball this
year). As usual, there will be
a refreshment booth in the
hall. Everyone is welcome.

not to cut construction
projects such as the planned
construction of Road 17 from
the Perth Boundary, west to
Winthrop. He explained that
the present labor force is
required to maintain . the
county's road system in the
winter. If construction
projects are eliminated,
there will be are impact on
the county's labor force and
expelrienced men will be laid -
off. Once that happens, said
Dempsey, we'll lose ex-
perienced men.
To eliminate paving or
resurfacing projects from
the 1981 program would not
have the same effect, "said
Dempsey, Because' these
jobs are tendered to outside
companies.
Warden Fred Haberer
suggested that council's
approval of the road budget
would not be the final
decision because it still must
go to the Executive Com-
mittee for approval. Council
accepted the budget which is
now sent to the Executive
Committee for final review.
