A good suggestion can to
us this past week. In most
cases, once a year the
various service clubs, and
other organizations change
their slates of officers. The
thought was that the News -

the nacres of officers for the
various groups and these
would in tuft be made
available to anyone desiring
the information.
So please would each club,

BEAVERS SCOUTS CUBS
• NEWS...by Mary Freennon
Colony A: It was a beautiful night for a walk and the
Beavers ended their journey at the police station. Policeman
Don Shropshall was on hand to give the Beavers a tour of the
premises. Some of the Beavers ventured into the jail to have
a closer look although Dale Marsh and Clay Bircluun didn't
think it would be a good place to live. Danny Verhoef feared
his finger would never come clean again but he volunteered
along with leader, Rusty, to be finger printed.
Policeman Don had a short conversation on the walkie
talkie greatly impressing the Beavers. Jeff Bosman thought -
it. was just like television. The highlight of the evening was
the sirens and lights of the cruiser and at one point 19
Beavers were counted in the cruiser at one time. A great
laugh for Gavin Hunter and Keith Ryan was to lock Leader
Tic Tac in the backseat of the cruiser.
However Toby St. Louis came to my rescue and after a
"big thank you" to Don Shropshall, we journeyed back to the
pond. Special thanks to mom Darlene Morgan for assisting
on our outing.
Colony B: The Beavers gathered in a game of soccer before
Rainbow performed the opening ceremony. "Red Rover"
and "Zip Zap" were played before dividing the Beavers into
lodges to colour pictures of Beavers. The Beavers were then
instructed in a new game of orange relay before Hawkeye
•
called Riverbanks and the dosing ceremony.
Cubs: Badges were awarded to Jason MacLean, house
orderly; Billy Hoskin, collectors; Johnny Hoskin, team
player; Brad Jewitt, team player and skater; David
Diechert, carpenters; Blue Star, Matthew Butcher and
James Crawford; tawny star; Brian Kiss. After finishing
their star work the cubs enjoyed a game of basketball and
back to back relay.
There will be an upcoming car rally for the cubs and the
kits swill be sold $1.35 per kit. A newsletter will be sent with
further details.

Council looks at fire
Whopays for the firemen'
wages when they assist
another area fire depart -
anent through the mutual aid
system?
The Seaforth Area Fire
Board presented this
question to the Clinton
council at their January 19
meeting.
In a letter, the Seaforth
board noted that $536 in
wages were paid to the
Seaforth firemen who helped
battle the October 16 Clinton
Hotel fire. Presently there is
no formal agreement as to
which municipality in the
mutual aid system is
responsible for the wage
costs and the Seaforth board
has asked it Clinton,
Goderich and Mitchell, all
served by the system, would
be agreeable to . sign an
agreement.
CoUiiicilbr Ron - ?vlackay
said, - 'They're jusi asking
for common sense" and
Clerk Cam Proctor noted,
"They're not making
demands, but are wondering
if an agreement is
necessary."
Councillor Ross Jewitt,
who serves on the Clinton
Fire Department said that
mutual aid has their own
fund and perhaps the wages
are paid through this. It was
agreed that he would find out
more information on the
fund, which is accumulated
through dues the firemen
pay.

The ministry of tran-
sportation and com-
munication has given Clinton
a 21 per cent increase in
their 1981 street subsidy. The
town will be receiving $52,500
for maintenance repairs and
$150,000 for construction on
town streets. These funds
can be interchanged where
needed.
+++
Council passed the 1981
Business Improvement Area
(BIA) budget of $10,000. Of
that, the BIA will use $3,000
for promotion; $5,000 for
construction and $1,000 for
additional expenses. The
budget request was the same
as in 1980.

Councillor Rosemary
Armstrong recommended to
council that Bud Qiamney
eement
be he -hired from March 1981
to March 1982 to look after
garbage removal in town.
The recomulendation To-
eludes a $100 inane
pay, upping Mr. Chamney's
Yearly paY to$24,000.
All council members
agreed not to tender the
sanitation collector this
year, but to sign an
agreement with Mr.
Mammy, who hes been
employed by the townillrthe
last two years.
Mayor Chester Ardutald
noted, '1 have heard nothing
but good comments and
think that Mr. Chamney's
increase could be higher."
