Scoins, both, of the math department, spent the day talking to students of the five year math courses. Their purpose was to pro- mote math, to make students Juror girls lose tourney By Donna Lawson The junior girls' volleyball team, competing in a tourna- ment last Wednesday at CUSS, won only two of six games, but still mired to be an improvement over last year's winless team. The team consisting of several experienced players and a number of inex- perienced players got off to a good start in this first tour- nament of the season by defeating Goderich in a close game. Unfortunately Goderich fought back hard to take the second match. The juniors went en to be defeated_ in two games against South Huron, to make it three consecutive losses. Clinton was able to rebuild their confidence to defeat Seaforth in a close and tense game. Clinton fought hard in the second game but was overtaken by the Seaforth team. aware of its importance and inform them of career oppor- tunities. Both men spent the day giving intriguing and enlightening lectures to the students. Perhaps students can now understand and ap- preciate the value and numerous career oppor- tunities in math. Performance review on Mr. Murphy, CRSS' prin- cipal, is the object of a Per- formance Review being con- ducted by the Huron Board of Education. Five members of the board will be in the. school for two weeks review- ing many aspects of CHSS and how the principal and vice principal influence these aspects. Input for the review will come from the whole com- munity. Teachers and students will fill out ques- tionnaires regarding Mr. Dearborn Steel tendered for sale GODERICH - The assets of Dearborn Steel Tubing Manufacturing Company of Goderich have been ten- dered in the hopes of selling the automotive exhaust manufacturing company. The company went into receivership early in December with two receivers acting as managers and agents tor. lending institutions. Laventhal and Horwath Chartered Accountants of Toronto are acting on behalf of the Canada Permanent Mortgage and Trust Com- pany, holder of the first mortgage an the land, buildings and equipment. Playing against the strong Goderich teams on their home court was too much for the CRSS teams. Of the three teams the Juniors have the best record at 2-2 under the direction of Mr. Jefferson. +++ CHSS participated in an all comers meet at Western Bill Tugwell University The meat was held indoors at Thompson Arena. Six athletes com- peted at this track event in which competitors from any age competed in classifica- tions according to ability. The team is coached by Mr. Ludwig. ' Several school indoor records were broken. Steve Corbett broke two records with a 400 m. time of 57.7 seconds and a 200 m. time of 25:7. Greg Schmidt broke the 800 m. school record with a 2:20:8 clocking. Player of the week Junior basketball player Bill Tugwell is the Player of the Week at CHSS. Bill is in Grade 11 and this is Bill's third year of basketball as he started in Grade 9 with the midget team. : . Bill says that he plays this sport for fun, exercise and for the competition. Playing basketball involves practis- ing four nights a week for Bill. Other than basketball, Bill is an the school volleyball, badminton and soccer teams. Bill won art award last- year for. outstanding junior athlete at CHSS. He thinks that sports are an im- portant part of school and is consequently involved in many school sports.
