University comes to CHSS
Last Tuesday, two
members of the University
of Waterloo came to CHSS.
Dr. K. D. Fryer and Pro-
fessor R. G. Scoins, both, of
the math department, spent
the day talking to students of
the five year math courses.
Their purpose was to pro-
mote math, to make students
Juror girls
lose tourney
By Donna Lawson
The junior girls' volleyball
team, competing in a tourna-
ment last Wednesday at
CUSS, won only two of six
games, but still mired to be
an improvement over last
year's winless team.
The team consisting of
several experienced players
and a number of inex-
perienced players got off to a
good start in this first tour-
nament of the season by
defeating Goderich in a close
game. Unfortunately
Goderich fought back hard
to take the second match.
The juniors went en to be
defeated_ in two games
against South Huron, to
make it three consecutive
losses. Clinton was able to
rebuild their confidence to
defeat Seaforth in a close
and tense game. Clinton
fought hard in the second
game but was overtaken by
the Seaforth team.
aware of its importance and
inform them of career oppor-
tunities. They attempted to
encourage participation in
math contests, and to show
students math can be fun
even though hard work.
They also stated that they
were to act like an in school
field trip; allow students a
chance to talk to professors
and serve as a liaison
between the various schools,
comparing ideas and keep-
ing them up to date.
The professors stressed
that their purpose was not to
recruit students but to in-
form them and they travel
all over Ontario trying to do
so. Both men spent the day
giving intriguing and
enlightening lectures to the
students. Perhaps students
can now understand and ap-
preciate the value and
numerous career oppor-
tunities in math.

The school basketball

Goderich on January 16.
Playing against the strong
Goderich teams on their
home court was too much for
the CRSS teams. Of the three
teams the Juniors have the
best record at 2-2 under the
direction of Mr. Jefferson.
