U.C.W. of Hohnesville was
held at the church on 7'
January 13.
Barbara Betties and her
group were in charge of the
program. A welcome and a
chuckle opened the meeting
folowed by a New Year's
m read by Dorothy
iy. The prayer was
offered by Phyllis C. The
theme for the meding was
1961, the Internaiiatal Yew
of Disabled Person. It was,
pointed out that disabilities
may be permanent or
temporarily seen or unseen
Each UCW member was
asked to name a disability.
The months of this year
are divided into six study
s s.a.M each Let d
two _months, January and
February will look at
transportation and ac-
cessibility; Mauch and April,
housing; May, June, aids;
July and August, recreation
and leisure; September and
October, employment;
November, December,
ediration and prevention.
Extracts were read from
the January Observer in
regard to disabilities. Doris
Batkin received the offering
and Verna Lobb played
several New Year hymns.
The president Jean Ginn
was in chargeof the business
meeting and Mrs. Lobb gave
the secretary's report. Each
convenor gave her yearly
statements. Three delegates
Betty Stoner, Irene Cudmore
and Mrs. Ginn will be at:

The family Grace
Evans surprised her with a
retirement party in the
township hall in Varna on
Saturday, January 10. She
was employed at Huronview
for the past nine years.
Members of her family
were present from Maryhill,
Petersburg, Ethel, Brussels
and Varna for a dinner
catered by Vilma Millar of
Seaforth. Grace was
presented with a dozen red
roses, as well as money for a
trip, which had been given to
her at Christmas time. She
also received several birth-
day gifts -
The latter part of the even-
ing was spent playing cards.
Community notes
A coffee group for men
began m the church base-
ment last Thursday with a
film and discussion. These
"come as you are" gather-
ings will be held weekly until
Feb. 19.
The course for women
"Face to Face with
Ourselves" will be held on
Tuesday afternoons at 1:30
beginning next Tuesday at
the manse. All women are
welcome.
The flowers in the church
on Sunday were from the
funeral of Mrs. Volland.
Sympathy was expressed to
Louis and Beatrice Taylor
and their family by their
friends and neighbors.
Our sympathy, also, to
Eric and Sharon Chuter and
family in the loss of Sharon's
grandfather, Jacob Reder.
Torn Consitt has returned
from a nine -day holiday in
She Roblin and Oxbow area
of Manitoba. While there he
visited his aunt, Mrs. Annie
Johnston, who is spry and
healthy at the age of 92, and
Mrs. Emma Cockerline,
Albert and Margaret Mann-
ing and Helen Manning of
Pilot Mound.
Murvin and Ruth
Johnston's grandson, Chris
Proctor, holidayed with
them last week.

The new Township Hall
was nicely decorated for the
first Clinton Figure Skating
Club dance which was a sell
out. The music was supplied
by "Whiskey Jack" which
everyone enjoyed dancing
to. The ladies of the club
served lunch at the con-
clusion of the evening.
