On Saturday evening they held their dance at the Goderich Township Hall. There was a large crowd in attendance and everyone en- joyed themselves. It was a big su?cess ! On Sunday, the dill) held their club competition and were quite pleased with the turnout. The 'following is a list of the competitors who finished. first, second and third and also the donors of the various trophies presented. In the pre -novice free skating event, the trophy donated by the Bank of Mon- treal was presented by Carolyn Wood and medals were presented by Joyce Cook to .1st, Sherri Preszcator; 2nd, Jody Merner and 3rd, Paula Glew. The Novice free skating event trophy donated by the Royal Bank, Clinton was presented by Mr. L. Smith and the medals presented by Murray Cook to Lori Jewitt, Robyn Norman and - Ruth Ann White. In the advanced novice event the trophy donated by Clinton Community Credit Union was presented by Miss Mary Gibson (for Fred Gib- son) and medals were presented by Betty Lockhart to Jaquie Draper, Tracey Hayter and Julia Ritchie. The junior skating event trophy and medals were presented by Sharon White to Norris Flynn, Shannon Preszcator and Elizabeth Romanik. and the in- termediate skating event trophy donated by Corrie's Red and White was presented by Joyce Cook and medals presented by Joyce Cook to Mary Gibson, Lorelei Robinson and Karen Cook. In the senior event the trophy donated by Clinton Home Hardware was Seaforth spiel goes well By D usflla Leitch It looks like it was another busy weekend for those on the bonspiel circuit with some big wins and a few losses to report The overall impression, though, as usual, is that everyone had a great time, keen competition and, in some cases, really close games which could have gone either way. The Labatt Trophy play- off to decide which team will represent Division 13 was held in Mount Forest on Sunday and resulted in a win for the Seaforth rink skipped by Bill Campbell, with Gord Pryce, v lee; Mike Thomas, second; and Neil Dohnage, lead. They defeated the Horton rink from Port Elgin in the best -two out of three games. Earlier in the week, they defeated the Fotheringham rink from Palmerston to break the tie and decide the winner for. Div. 13A. The Seaforth rink now advances to a 4 -Division Playoff scheduled for this weekend in London. Let's wish them some more "good curling!" In Palmerston, on Saturday, the Gord Pryce rink with Irma Pryce, Bruce and Marjorie Coleman, were knocked out . of mixed competition for the Seagram Trophy after three close games with Wing ham, Harriston and Listowel respectively. Harriston advanced to the next round. Congratulations to Kay Sharp, who led her ladies rink to victory at Kincardine on Saturday. They received the trophy as winners of, the late draw. Grace Campbell, Gwen Patterson and Marilyn Thomas made up the four- some. She reports a very good Broomball_ in Bayfield By Bud Sturgeon Starting this Friday night and continuing throughout the weekend, a broomball tournament will be played at the Bayfield Arena, featur- ing 22 teams. Making up the 22 teams are 16 men's teams, including the Seaforth Hawks, who became the Southern Ontario Champions by virtue of a. tournament win in Woodstock a week ago, and six area women's . teams. Action gets underway at 6:45 p.m. with Goderich and Blyth facing off in a regular- ly scheduled league game. As far as the tournament standings go, this game will be treated as an exhibition game and will not count. The games are 50 minutes in length and overtime is played in case of a tie. • Rounding out Friday night's schedule as the com- petitors get down to business are the following games: women's - Parr Line vs Blyth Gravelrunners; men's - Egmondville vs Blyth Bears; Blyth 8th Liners vs Belmore; women's - Blyth .Baintoneers vs Chiselhurst; men's - Goderich vs Camp- bells (Palmerston). Play gets underway on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. with a women's game, Auburn vs Queens Hotel (Seaforth) followed by : men's - Winthrop vs For- mosa Kings; Chiselhurst vs Lakelet; Atlas Rams (Blyth) vs Clifford Warridrs; Bervie Raiders vs Seaforth Jr. Farmers;. Seaforth Hawks vs Palmerston Farmers. Following this first round of the double knockout tour- nament, the winners will compete in the `A° Division, while first round losers move to the `B' Consolation el ss. They are competing for four sets of trophies as well as prize money. Admission at the door will be •$1 to see some exciting broomball action. The final championship game is slated for 2p.m. on Sunday. There is a dance being held in conjunction with the tournament on Saturday night at the Community Cen- tre with a DJ and lunch is provided. Advance dance tickets will be available (at the arena all day) for $3 or =4 at the door. Everyone is response to basic social dance. Plans for the use of the new township hall are moving along nicely with a list of volunteer supervisors. A dance is to be held February 14 with Country Companions for music. Buy a ticket and bring your best Valentine. Other dances are planned for next September, December and New Year's Eve. Following discussion about vandalism and rowdyism at Lakeside Park, Goderich Township Recreation, Parks and Community Centre Board recommends that township council pass a bylaw stating that Lakeside Park be a "dawn to dusk" park with no camping, etc. and that this bylaw be posted for all to see. There was great jubilation in the Tremeer household on Sunday morning when Don brought home the Meikeljohn Trophy from the Harriston Bgpspiel. The rink, skipped by Gerry Walter with Don as vice, Phil Foster, second and Jack Mellough as lead won all four games in their sweep to victory. The Meikeljohn trophy is a real "prestige" win and has been curled for the past 70 years. In addition to the trophy, the team members were awarded a healthy stack of T-bone steaks - which, these days, must be worth almost as Much as the trophy! Mel Gilbert and his rink travelled to Tillsonburg for the two day Tobacco Belt Spiel. David Ste. Marie, Gerry Lobb and Bob Wilson made up the team for the Friday games and Gerry Hetherington joining the group on Saturday. The Seaforth rink skipped by Doug Rowcliffe with John Patterson Sr., John Pat- terson Jr., and Bob Ste. Marie took part in the area Legion, Bonsoiel held at Elmira. Unfortunately, they didn't get as far as last year, when they made it to Ottawa, but nevertheless they enjoyed the keen competition. Lots of action at the Club this week with the Ladies spiel on Wednesday - I'll have those results next week There will be lots of good competitive curling on tap on Saturday, when the Fleming Mixed spiel gets underway, phis, of course, the usual good food, fellowship and good prizes. The senior dance trophy was presented by Ann Gib- son and - medals were presented by Rhea Jones to Marg Dupee and Shelly Mid- dleton, Brenda Dupee and Susan Howells and Susan Howells and Peggy Jones. The first, second and third place skaters in the junior, intermediate and senior events will advance to the in- terclub competition to be held on Sunday, March 1 at the Clinton arena. Matson's Crown Mixed The Blackbirds have a ,slight lead on firstplace with 55 points, but the Cardinals are close behind with 54. The Blue Jays are behind in third place with 47 points and the Penguins and Hawks are tied with 45 apiece. The Falcons have 42 points, the Chickadees r are next with 40 and the Canaries are faltering with 36 points. Marl Moore was the top lady bowler, taking the high single with 301, the high triple with 687 and the high a vera ge with 232.
