vandalism costs
Vandalism in Huron
County schools has cost the
taxpayer almost $6,000 in the
last four months of 1980.
A report released to the
board by Director of
Education, John Cochrane
indicated that incidents of
vandalism and related
damage in both elementary
and secondary schools
amounted to $5,894 in repair
costs. The total cost of
damage repairs in
elemen try -schools Was
$3,035 and $2,859 in secon-
dary schools for the four-
month period.
Most elementary schools
reported one or two incidents
of damage bit Robertson
Memorial Public School in
Goderich reported eight
incidents at a repair cost of
$384. The highest repair cost
was $554 as a result of two
incidents at Huron Cen-
tennial School
One incident of damage at
Holmesville Public School
resulted in repair costs of
$116 while five at Victoria
Public School cost $404.
There were seven incidents
of damage at Usborne
CentralSchool costing $0:
Almost half the incidents
of damage at county
secondary schools di ured
at Central Huron High
School in Clinton. Of 31
damage reports in the
county; 15 were in Clinton at
a cost of $1,844. Muth of the
damage required the ex-
pertise of outside tradesmen.
South Farm High School
in Exeter reported nine
incidents of -damage atacost
of $107. There were two in-
cidents at Goderich and
District Collegiate with
repair costs estimated at
1186 -
Cochrane told 'the Ward
that many' incidents, occur
after school hours and on
weekends and " repairs often
involve overtime pay to
custodians or outside
tradesmen.
The only schools without
damage ' reports were
Hensall Public School,
Howick ' Central
School,Seaforth Public
School, Stephen Central
Public School and Walton
Public SchooL

A Sunday afternoon' pro-
gram on Dec_ 28 was arrang-
ed by Mrs. Mabel L Gray
and the pianists were Mrs:
Elia Snider . from Goderich
and Mrs. Helen Bryans from
Mitchell. The residents were
also entertained by a very
fine group of talented musi-
cians which included
violinists Mrs. Ruby
Stadelbauer from Mitchell;
Mrs.' Mabel Gray from
Goderich; Jim Mulhern
from Goderich; Bill Hughes
from Goderich and Ern
Harley from Mitchell. •
As well as leading in the
singing of carols, the
ensemble played a few
favourite . semi -classical
numbers which were much
enjoyed. Mrs. Harrison
pleased her audience very
much with her lovely solo,
"The Birthday of the King"
by Neidlinge. Mr. Ern
Harley's solo "Silent Night"
was a favourite of everyone.
This splendid concert in
music brought a beautiful
end to the Christmas
festivities.
