PAGE 14—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, JANUARY 8 . 1981
When. I first took over this
column, I wrote about
beginnings; • well January
has got to he full of the most
beginnings I know of. For
exaimple: it's the beginning
of a new year - thank
goodness because I deal
think we could have packed
much more in the last one.
It's the beginning of the pain
of remembering to write 1981
net 1980 on our cheques.
R's, the beginning el back
to school for the kids - I
heard one mother remark if
the buses weren't running
because of certain weather
conditions she was Walking

It's the beginning of

changes
A resolution from the City
of Stratford asking that the
Minister of Education be
petitioned to make changes
m the representation on
boards of education in the
province was endorsed by
the Huron Board Monday.
The Stratford resolution
asked Education Minister
Bette Stephenson to make
changes so that membership
of boards of education more
adequately reflects student
population and education
taxes paid.
Representation by trustees
is determined by assessment
and commercial and in-
dustrialussessments are not
permitted to be used to
dtermine urban represen-
tatioin Stratford contends
that rural and urban
- - — -representation on hoards has
been changed because of
higher rural assessments -
The resolution added that
through re -assessment
urban representation does
not reflect population,
student population, or
• education taxes paid
The resolution came to the
board's attention, after it was
endorsed by the town of
Clinton. Trustee Frank
Falconer took exception to
the endorsement claiming it
reflected on him.
"Clinton is just a rubber-
stamping copycat of
Stratford," he said.
"They're sore because they
don't think they have
representation and that
comes back tome.",
Falconer, a resident of
Tuckersmith Township,
represents both the township
and town of Clinton.
Goderich Trustee Dorothy
Wallace said Stratford had
the right to , protest their
representation on the Perth
Board of Education.
"Goderich is the biggest
centre in Huron County and
they may be left with only
one representative," she
said. "Representation has no
relation to the number of
• kids or taxpayers."
The Stratford resolution
has been forwarded to all
towns and cities in Ontario.

when the Christmas bills
come in - mine never

that one doesn't count.
January is the beginning of
snow depression for some -
not me though-. I shO7elled
off my picnic tableand lit my
hibachi and barbecued a
steak under the snowflakes.
Just pretend it's a new kind

Developed by Northern
Telecom, the new system
allows amplification of
phone messages through a
built-in speaker for a group
listening. A person can dial
without lifting the receiver,
and up to 12 telephones,
including six outside lines,
can be accommodated on the
system.
So far, says company
purchasing manager Brenda
Ginty, only about 30 sets
have been sold. But it ap-
pears that the St. Marysfirm
is the first to have one in-
stalled.
Mr. Ginty Said that
Veterinary Purchasing had
to change its phone system
because it needed more than
the previous four -line system
it had been using.
Veterinary Purchasing is a
non-profit central pur-
cbas in g company for
shareholder vets. The
company expectd to have
sales of about $9 million in its
current fiscal year. It serves
