sponsoring a playground
program this sumrner for six
weeks_
Rachel and Catherine Bat-
tye and Grace Buffinga and
Karen Souch will be the
supervisors. Children from 3
to 13 years old are welcome
to attend_
Included in the program
are crafts for the younger
children, games, trips, cam -
pouts and wading pool super-
vision.
Registration will be at
Blyth Arena on June 30th
and July 1st from 3-6 p.m.

Mrs. Patricia Longmore
and her baby daughter have
been visiting with her sister
and husband Richard and
Sheila McKay of Blyth for a
couple of weeks. Mrs.
Longmore and her husband
ore with the Armed Forces
Base at Cold Lake, Alberta.
Joan Clark reports that the
canvass in Blyth for the
Wingham and District
Association for the Mentally
Retarded raised $642.50. She
thanks the canvassers for
the successful campaign of
Blyth.

Mr. George Cowan preach-
ed his last sermon on Sunday
at the United Church. Mrs.
Donald Kai was the organist
and choir director. Mr.
Cowan and Adaline Camp-
bell sang a duet.
After the church service a
gift was presented to Mr.
and Mrs. George Cowan by
Bill Burkholder.
Higgins Clan
Reunion
The 60th anniversary of
the Higgins clan re -union
was held June 26 at Women's
Institute Hall in Belgrave
with 79. signing the register.
The afternoon was enjoyed
by visiting and viewing old
pictures on display that had
been taken at previous re-
unions.
A variety of games were
conducted by the sports com-
mittee: Bill and Ruth Ann
Higgins and Jack and
Doreen Marks.
Special interest was the
ceremonial cutting of a cake
made and decorated in the
colours of the Higgins crest
by Mrs. Jerry Higgins of
Stratford. It was cut by the
oldest member of the family
present, Mrs. Lila Higgins,
Belgrave.
Stewart Higgins, Presi-
dent, welcomed everyone
before dinner was served.
Musicalselections by Donna
and Ruth Higgins were en-
joyed-
Mrs_ Velma Shera,
Wingham, gave two ap-
propriate readings.
A short history of the
origin of the Higgins re-
union was given by Joe Hig-
gins of Mitchell. The 1923 re-
union began on the river

rogram
the 6th of Turnberry.
An illustrated talk from
data on research done by his
father John, on the family
history notes from Ireland,
was given by Don and Eileen
Higgins, Komoka.
Lunch was served by Tom
and Edna Pletch; Chester
and Wilda Higgins; Jerry
and Marlene Higgins; John
and Merle Cousins.
Guests were present from
London, Stratford, Waterloo,
Stayner, Wroxeter, Mitchell,
Wingham, Erin, Gorrie,
Belmore, Brussels, Walton,
Belgrave, Tavistock. Ilder-
ton, Orangeville, Blyth.

Blyth graduation held
Graduation exercises were
held for Blyth Public School
students last week.
On June 21, the
Kindergarten students
presented their assembly
under the direction of Mrs.
Hoonaard- Following the
program by the students, a
graduation, including the
presentation of diplomas,
was observed.
Parents and friends then
held a party with the
Kindergarten graduates.
On June 23, the Grade 8
Banquet was held in the
United Church basement.
Following dinner, a Grade 6,
7 choir under the direction of
Mrs. Shirley Vincent, enter-
tained those present.
Bob McCall, the
Superintendent of Cur-
riculum, spoke to the
students. Julie Howson then
gave the Valedictorian ad-
dress.
Awards were presented to
the graduates. Awards went
to the following students:

reside in Atwood
Gary Lyle Hopper of
Atwood and Donna Vallance
of Harriston were married
on June 18 at the Calvin
Presbyterian Church in
Harriston.
Rev. George R. Bell of-
ficiated at the double ring
ceremony.
The groom is the son of the
late Stanley and Jean
Hopper of Morris Township.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Vallance
of Harriston.
Becky Firby of Atwood
was the maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Darlene
Quigly of Harriston, Judy
Vallance of Harriston and
Debbie Hopper of
Palmerston.
Ken Firby of Atwood was
the best man. Guests were
ushered into the church by
Wayne Cook of Belgrave,
Darby and Kim Vallance,
both of Harriston.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held at the
Harriston Legion Hall.
Thenewlyweds are
making their home in
Atwood.

Over 200 guests attended
the open house for Nelson
and Annie Reid's 50th wed-
ding anniversary on June 19
in the church basement of
Duff's United.
Congratulations were ex-
tended from their relatives,
neighbours and friends.
Pouring tea were Mrs.
Jean Scott, Mrs. Jim
Williamson, Mrs. Laura
Machan and Mrs. Rena
Watt. Assisting serving were
Alice Searle, Maxine Marks,
Audrey Hackwell, Mildred
Traviss, Laura Murray and
Phyllis Mitchell.
The family dinner followed
in the church parlour with 44
guests present. Attending
from a distance were from
Sarnia, Bramalea, Oregon,
Exeter, Kitchener,
Waterloo, Montreal, London,
Bayfield, Clinton and sur-
rounding communities.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex
McNabb, Oregon, U.S. re-
mained for a holiday with
the Reids and other
relatives.
Mrs. Katie Stimore, Strat-
ford spent a couple nights at
the Reid home attending
their anniversary celebra-
tions.

WI Meets
The June meeting of the
Walton Women's Institute
was held Wednesday in the
community hall with 16
members present.
Business was led by presi-
dent, Mrs- Ken McDonald
assisted by Mrs. Bill Hum-
phries.
There was some discus-
sion with plans to be made
later for catering to corning
events. Education and
Cultural Activities convener,
Mrs. Lavern Godkin in-
troduced guest speaker,
Mrs. Les I Cathy I Glanville
who demonstrated paper
tolls. It is working in three
dimensions, building up
from the start. Each
member worked on a bird.
She was thanked by Mrs. Bill
Shortreed for her display.
