Valerie Bolton, chairper-
son of the Huron County
Community Service Council,
was speaking of the bi-
monthly meetings held at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre.
If you are employed or a
volunteer in any kind of com-
munity or social service
work in Huron County, you
may wish to join this council.
Meetings are held at 10
a.m. on the second Thursday
of each month. "We have a
speaker or film at each
meeting to convey the work
of a group or agency in
Huron," Bolton said. In July
the guests will be the three
members of parliament hav-
ing jurisdiction in Huron:
Jack Riddell M.P.P., Mur-
ray Elston M.P.P. and Mur-
ray Cardiff M.P. They will
answer questions from those
present on how they can aid
council members overcome
roadblocks they may en-
counter when dealing with
government. "Just about
every community worker
will at some time find
themselves caught up in 'red
tape' or encounter a client
who is having some problem
with a government service,"
explained Bolton. "It will be
valuable to know how we can
use our MP and MPPs to
help us help others."
Membership on the council
is only $5 for individuals and
$10 for agencies. Members
receive minutes of past
meetings, including a notice
of the upcoming meeting by

The council's main pur-
pose is to provide an infor-
mal network of social and
community workers making
contacts that are necessary
for this kind of work. The
council also has several
committees which take an
active role in establishing
new services in the county.
Presently there is a
transportation committee
looking at transportation for
the handicapped and an ad-
visory committee hoping to
establish a credit
counselling service. Any in-
dividual who would be in-
terested in working on these
or other such committees is
also welcome to join the
council.
"We hope to see some new
faces at our next meeting,"
said Bolton. "Everyone is
welcome and we welcome
new members."
The next meeting, featur-
ing the members of parlia-
ment as speakers, will be Ju-
ly 14 at 10 a.m. at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre.
