Two Goderich Township
residents are opposed to
paying a vet bill from the
Town of Clinton.
Ray Lambers and Bert
Dykstra, both of Goderich
Township, were sent in-
voices in May amounting to
over $82.70. The billing was
issued for time and mileage
for the town animal control
• officer, costs from when he
took the two dogs to the
pound at the Seaforth
Veterinary Clinic. The dogs
were seized after they
reportedly killed pheasants
at the Clinton Fish and Gagne
Club.
Clinton Clerk Cam Proctor
said he asked Goderich
Township Clerk Robin
Thompson if the township
would foot the bill. Clerk
Thompson said the township
would not, but he suggested
the owners should pay.
In replay to the invoice,
Mr. Dykstra said the in-
cident may have happened,
but he suggested that men
working at the Fish and
Game Club could have
notified him that his dog was
chasing the birds.
Clerk Proctor said that
Mr. Dykstra was warned last
year that his dog was run-
ning at large within the town.
However, Mr. Dykstra in his
letter stated that his dog has
not run at large.
Mr. Dykstra called the
invoice charges, involving
five hours labor and 44 miles,
"ridiculous."
Council agreed to send out
detailed invoices, explaining
the charges, and another
request to pay the bill.
School Car Insurance
Clerk Proctor will in-
vestigate the costs of in-
suring the Clinton School On
Wheels. The former Sloman
School Car was purchased by
the town last year.
Mayor Chester Archibald
noted, "The School Car is
priceless, but once it's
destroyed there's no value to
it. It can't be replaced or
rebuilt."
Deputy Reeve Frank Van
Altena noted that insurance
could cover a partial loss and
repairs. He reminded
council that renovation to the
old school car has been
completed by volunteer
labor and funding, at no cost
to the town.
"I'm sure the town would
have to pay for repairs if it
was needed again," Mayor
Archibald agreed.
Council will purchase
some insurance coverage on
the car and may increase it
when the renovations have
been completed and the
coach is furnished.
Rec Centre donation
After a lengthy study by
council and the town
recreation committee,
council agreed to grant a
$500 donation to the Vanastra
Rec Centre in Tuckersmith
Township.
The request first came to
council, was turned over to
the rec committee and then
sent back to council. The rec
committee recommended
that the donation be made,
noting that Tuckersmith
Township has supported
Clinton's recreation
facilities with $500 donations
for the past two years.
LACAC budget
Included in the Clinton
LACAC budget this year are
travelling expenses for two
members Helen Tench and
Josephine Winters. They will
be attending the upcoming
LACAC Convention in
Ottawa. A guest speaker will
be architect Carlos Vinton
and he will be speaking on
the Clinton Town Hall -
library restoration project.
Also included in the $2,575
budget are the following
allocations: advertising,
1350; books, $100; house
plaques, $600; house
registers, $125;
miscellaneous, $200;
brochure, 1400; travel, $800.
Property Standards Com-
mittee
Clinton's property stan-
dards bylaw may now be
enforced.
Council has named W.J.
Counter, Ray Bentley and
Don Wright to serve on the
advisory committee. The
committee will hear any
appeals after a property
standards officer has issued
clean-up warnings to Clinton
property owners.
An officer has yet to be
named, but in the meantime
council and the Clinton
Police will work together to
enforce the bylaw
