(Shelley McPhee photo) Armstrongs meet in Belgrave By Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse Sunday afternoon the Armstrong family held a reunion. The older children and young men went to the ball park and played soft- ball, then all met back at the hall for a picnic supper. Those attending were Mrs. Ellen Armstrong of Pinecrest Nursing Home, Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Taylor and Rennay, Mr and Mrs. Glenn Walker, Todd and Jodie, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Armstrong, Jeff Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Craig, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Workman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Martin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Don Nolan and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Carswell and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Taylor, Dusky and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Keller and family, Trudy and Mark Taylor. Family and friends gathered together in the Wingham Legion on June 4, to celebrate the 25th wedding anniversary of John and Marie McIntosh. Mike McIntosh, the eldest of the children, thanked everyone for coming, the Legion for their assistance, and Stevens Country Gold for supplying the music. A Patricia Stackhouse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Stackhouse of Lon- desboro, graduated from the Wingham and District Nursing Assistant Program on May 20. Mike introduc- ed the family starting the youngest Paul, Chris, Heather, Janet, Kim, Robert and Dave. Bob Fraser read the ad- dress and Glen James presented John and Marie with a swag lamp from the neighbors. The happy couple thanked everyone for com- ing and making their even- ing so special and memorable. Friends and relatives came from Scarborough, Sheffield, London, Dundalk, Harriston, Hanover, Wingham, Belgrave and area. Visitors on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coultes and family were Mr. and Mrs. Myles Hartwig, Mark, Marilyn, Marie, Margaret and Melody of Killaloe. They were surprise guests at the 25th wedding anniversary party. Joanne Coultes of Victoria, B.C. was also home for the party. Members of the wedding party were present from An - caster, Exeter, Stratford, Blyth, Teeswater and Belgrave. Special guests were Mr. Keri Davis, father of the bride and Mrs. Mabel Down of Stratford, aunt of the bride. Rev. Stan McDonald of Hensall acted as Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Ten tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.Y. Hall on June 1. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Wilfred Caslick; low lady, Mrs. Eva McGill; lone hands for lady, Mrs. Verena Bone; high man, Wilfred Walker; low man, Mrs. James R. Coultes (playing as a man); lone hands for man, James R. Coultes. There will be euchre Wednesday, June 8, same time. Everyone is welcome. Mrs. Eileen Canning of Stratford is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Nor- man Coultes. Friends and neighbors of this community extend sym- pathy to the Elston and Thomas families in the loss of `their mother and grand- mother Mrs. Emily Elston of Wingham. Euchre party held in Walton By Betty McCall The last euchre party on May 31 began with dessert at the Community Hall. Euchre was played with 20 tables in play. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Vi Howes; second high, Mrs. Shirley Glousher; low, Mrs. Mel Jacklin; men's high, Harold Hudie; second, Elsie Shaddick; low, Darlene Glousher; mens most zeros, Margaret Taylor (playing as a man) ; ladies most zeros, Mrs. Alice Stevens. Area Personals Supper guests Thursday evening with Mrs. Ruth Thamer were Mrs. Jean Scott, Blyth; Mr. and Mrs. John Dunn, Thorold; Clint and Judy Emmrich and family; John and Kim Thamer, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McNichol and Mrs. Annie Reid, all of Walton. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hackwell attended the din- ner and dance on Saturday evening to honor Barry Mar- shall for the 35th year of ser- vice as Postmaster of ('orun- na. It was held at the Corun- na Canadian Legion. Mrs. Dave Watson spent last weekend of May with Mr. and Mrs. Don Maier and family of Thamesford. Returning on Tuesday, they picked up Dave from the Rammeloo Nursing Home, who will be able to be at his home in the village. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Prit- chard of London spent the past weekend at the Watson home. Mr. and Mrs. John Dunn of Thorold spent the past week at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Kim and John Thamer. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Achilles and family of Bellwood spent the weekend at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Achilles and attended the opening barbecue of the new com- munity centre in Seaforth, Saturday evening with Jim and Mrs. Sills. Bridal Shower Debbie Van Vliet was guest of honor at a shower on Friday evening at Duff's United Church, prior to her wedding the first of next month. Turn to page 15 "IN TIE HEART OF DOWNTOWN VARN,A" 482- Mi Au urn Lions Club r Lions Club The Auburn and District Lions Club report that work on the ball diamond has been slower than hoped but they have made good use of time as weather would allow. According to Lion Glen Webster and Lion Bill Sproul, the ball diamond is booked solid for the season. The election of officers for 1983-84 was held on April 6 and Lion Lloyd Seipel and Deputy Governor John Stewart of Blyth helped with the installation ceremony on June I. The following is the executive for next year: president - Marinus Bakker; first vice-president - Ross Dobie, second vice-president - Bill Robinson, third vice- president - Robert Worsell, secretary - Donald Haines, treasurer - Fred Lawrence, Tail twister, Walter Marchi, Lion Tamer - Art Lefebre, Directors for one year - Gordon Daer and Murray Rourke, and two year directors - Doug Chamney and William Craven. The Auburn club initiated a new club member, David Cartwright. Marinus Bakker, Bill Robinson and Donald Haines attended the officers' training course at Palmerston on June 5. It was well represented by mem- bers of District A9. Open House About 150 attended the Open House in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall held last Sunday to honor Mr. and Mrs. Norman Vincent on the occasion of their 40th wedding an- niversary. The guest book was looked after by their daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Blake of Ethel. The at- tendants of 40 years ago, Mi•s. Frank Raithby, the bride's sister and Harold Vincent of Belgrave, the groom's brother, were both present. Everyone enjoyed the social visit and the pictures that were on display. Guests were present from Shilo, Manitoba, Hamilton, Guelph, Wiarton, Milton, Lucan, London, Wingham, Seaforth and the surroun- ding area. The immediate family ended the day with a delicious smorgasbord dinner at the Triple K Restaurant in Blyth. Hallett Township Day Mrs. Dorothy Grange of the Auburn Silver Tops and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock of the Women's Institute last Thursday evening attended the Hull ett Township Recreational meeting. July 9 will be Hullett Township Day for all residents of the township. This will be held at Londesboro. The afternoon program will be ball games set up by Keith Allen. A shuffleboard tournament is being planned for the Senior Citizens in the afternoon. A variety concert is being planned by a committee of Harry Lear, Mrs. Barbara Bosman and Murray Lyon. The Leo clubs of Lon- desboro and Auburn are asked to plan a children's program. The Londesboro Lions club is serving a pork chop barbecue dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. The judging of the Hallett Township crests will also take place. It is hoped that many more will enter this competition for the crest which will depict life in the township. Everyone who tarnond eves in the townsnap is in- vited to take part ui this project. ouster Clubs The Booster Club is making great plans for its Flea Market on June 18 at the playground. The plans are to instal a fountain at the ball park and playground_ Some of the members have painted the equipment and the Lion's Club members are putting up fences and screens for the activities on the grounds this summer. If anyone wishes table space for their crafts, please contact Mrs. Ross Daer or Miss l,orie Cartwright. If anyone is thinking of a yard sale, this would be a good tune to sell your things. Just rent a space. New T-shirts in many colours with the Auburn crest are available and will be for sale. If you wish one before that date, please call Mrs. Allan Craig, Mrs. George Collins or Mrs. Doug Chamney. Hats with the Auburn crest are also available.
