The Londesboro Lions have made a major contribution to the Clinton Public Hospital.
Lions Al Busman, left and Dave Overboe, right, presented a cheque for $3,000 to hospital
fund raising chairman Steve Cooke. The money will be used to help finance a new blood
bank refrigerator. The Londesboro Lions have also donated $200 to the hospital, in
memory of Brad Kennedy. (Shelley McPhee photo)
Brigade will buy
used ambulance
GODERICH - Goderich will
act as intermediary between
the provincial government
and St. John Ambulance to
assist the local brigade with
the purchase of a used
mobile first aid unit.
Gary Renaud of the
Goderich branch told council
that the local brigade is
restricted from buying a
used ambulance from the
government but the tran-
saction can be completed
between two levels of
government. Council agreed
to act as the purchasing
agent for the brigade and the
Goderich Branch will cover
all the costs involved.
Tax arrears from rent
EXETER - Tenants in sprite
rental facilities in Exeter
may soon be paying their
rent to the town coffers
rather than their landlords.
On the recommendation of
the finance committee,
council agreed to invoke
provincial statutes which
allow the town to collect
certain tax arrears from
tenants, who in turn then
deduct such amounts from
the rents which they pay to
their landlords.
Chairman Bill Mickle
advised that landlords are in
arrears by $28,000 in taxes on
local rental facilities.
It was noted that this
method had been used in the
past to collect delinquent
taxes from landlords.
