A request has been made by the local florists that orders for corsages be made early in the week, because the great demand of flowers for Mother's Day will not allow the florists time to put the corsages together later on m the week. Music for the Formal will be provided by Whiskey Jack, a popular local band. + + + The school band and choir have been giving perfor- mances this weekend. One was Friday afternoon, April 29, the other was the Spring Concert, held Saturday, to a full house. The band played pieces varying in style from classical to the Beatles. The choir performed the songs they sang at the Kiwanis Festival. The Girls' Chorus also performed the songs from the Kiwanis Festival. CHSS fad News (nice n,ra,..,.. warned before. Yet the war- ning was not heeded. So the warning was passed on to the next stage - punashanernt. You may be aware that CHSS has no more dances planned for this year other than the For- mal. This was mostly due to the LOW ATTENDANCE. Less than 25 percent of the student population were at- tending the dances. On April 29, classes wee e shortened from 70 minutes to 55 minutes, so that students could attend the Band and Choir show. Less than 50 students attended. Where were the others? They took the early dismissal as a reason to go home early, or as time to go uptown. The punishment tor not at- tending a student activity? No more activities. Never before has CRSS performed so badly. Hopefully, at- titudes will change, and students will once more par- take of the activities offered to them, when the penalty will be lifted ... next year. Education plan approved by board By Stephanie Levesque The special education plan approved by the Huron - Perth Separate School Board has undergone a few changes after a year in operation. Superintendent of educa- tion John MacCauley outlin- ed the changes to the separate school trustees at their April 25 meeting. The increase off a half-time special education resource teacher was needed because of fluctuating caseloads at some schools within the system. The plan originally called for 11.8 special educa- tion resource teaching posi- tions for 1982-83 but this was increased to 12.3 teaching positions. Mr. MacCauley also outlined the changes in the number of teachers required for self-contained special education classes in 1982-83. The plan originally called for five teachers for special education classes, but the nurrtber will remain at the present three. "The numbers are not as high as predicted," said Mr. MacCauley adding that a number of students are serv- ed in the remedial class caseload. Other changes made to the plan do not increase or decrease the number of teachers. While a half-time teacher for the gifted and a half-time psychometrist were initially approv 1 in the plan, the superintendent reported that the teacher of the gifted has been hired full- time but no appointment of a psychometrist has been made. Two special education resource teachers in speech and language were hired to instruct exceptional pupils and while this is a part of their task, they will also be instructing remedial students, reported Mr. Mac- Cauley. The cost of the program was 13.7 per cent higher than originally anticipated. It was budgeted at $587,645 1 dollars and actually cost $668,218. The increase represents the half-time special education resource teacher increase and the cost of the new salary agree- ment. In other special education business, the board ap- pointed Stewart Thompson of Goderich to the special education advisory commit- tee from May 1, 1'°;r.; to December of 1985. Mr. Thompson will be Huron County's representative to the comniittee. olm' ville n 'uij s ''IR By Blanche Deeves Goderich Township Women's Institute will meet May 9 at 8 p.m. in the Com- munity Centre in Holmesville.
